VROM 2001

2001 wasn't only the year that VROM was organised for the 9th time, it was also the first year the Volvo 480 club EUROPE decided to sent a delegation. VROM means 'Volvo Rendez-vous for Owners and Members'. Info about the VROM can be found at www.vrom.org.

Thursday August 7th we left very early in the morning heading for Sweden (Gotenborg). We drove all the way, something which has only become possible in a reasonable time last year with the completion of the Oresundbridge between Denmark and Sweden. Everything went great, no traffic jams, no rain, so we could drive through Germany with a fair speed

10 Kilometers before we arrived in Gotenborg it started raining a little. Almost all the way we had sunshine, but here it would rain. We would later find out that we were lucky, it had been raining in Gotenborg for several days and this was the best day so far. The weather improved over the following days and so was our mood. The first day at the VROM was mostly hosted by Volvo themselves. We received a tour in a large storage facility for parts and accessories. Afterwards we were taken to a Volvo testtrack where 25 shiny Volvo's were waiting to be 'abused'. The track had a length of 2 kilometers and the maximum speed was mostly 70 KMH, except a straight part (90 KMH) and a curve before the pit-stop (50 KMH). We all enjoyed ourselves and you will surely find enough burned rubber there now!

The second day of the VROM we decided we wanted to visit the Volvo museum which is also located in Gotenborg. In there we found a lot of old, new, rally and concept Volvo's. What must be mentioned is that we have seen the final 480, really, none have been produced ever since. Also the cabrio-prototype was noticed, which caused a lot of people to start drewling ;)

Sunday was the third day of the VROM and today the meeting was open to the public with Volvo clubs, exhibitions, entertainment, childrens activities, Volvo parts fair with over 100 salesmen! And lots of other things... Volvo audio systems with dolby surround were presented and some racing prototypes made their appearance. All together we had a great time at the VROM and hope to be there again next year.
