Wrong spark, Right Spark, 480t/740t Injectors

Bosch Super R6 285 (from my spares 480t) made it run like REAL crap.
Image

Bosch Super 4's no good on my 480t. OK for 480ES so I hear.

I have two set's of NGK V groove plugs.

Seems I don't and never had the correct plugs!

What the hell should I have? The exhaust pops with all of them.

Sorry for the pics but you need to know what your looking at without keeping new links.

Cheers

Thjey are also shite on Es-s
NGK V groove (close up and so black)
they don't look too bad....

You must be overfuelling then, and the excess fuel is being thrown onto the turbo. mine did it when i borrowed a Dump Valve.

for a standard car, NGK BPR6ES

turning the boost up makes combustion temps up, so they've cone a bit white. going to try BPR5ES next i think.

Martin, If I were you, before you make ANY modifications to your car, you need to get it running right in standard trim first, so I would go to volvo, get their recommended plugs, then get them to sort out what they messed up when they did your starter, and once its running well, drive it for at least 1000 miles to makes ure it really is better ( I allowed alomost a month/1500 miles and a cambelt change, after my transplant, before I started messing with it, to allow any gremlins to surface, none did thankfully)
It might cost money to get it running well standard, but it will be money well spent, and probably produce as much of a gain as a small mod done to it as is, if you see what i mean.

Only then can you tell whether any mods have made a real diifference to the performance of the car, or whther they have just compensated for the current shit running.

Also if you don't, and any of your symptoms get worse, you won't know whether it's the mods, or whther the existing problem has got worse, maybe pointing to a more sinister lurking problem.

All the above, with all due respect, and all IMHO of course, but it really what i would do.

Chris

Hi Chris,

The 480 is standard. That's why it's going for RR on Friday but now I find it's got crap plugs.

I too have been playing with spark plugs!

My misfire came back...wasn't cause by the dump valve, but by some mystery thing. Bought those dual platinum american ones....

Car ran like utter uber shit:-

no power, huge misfiring problem, and this morning only on three cylinders, barely idling at all.

So i cleaned up my 'volvo' marked original ones (which are only a year old anyway according to service sheet) and put them in, also i put on my new silcone/kevlar powertec leads.

Well its definately running perfectly now. Think the leads being naffed (it would seem) made the platinums perform worse than they would normally, but definately the originals are better.

The heat range of the plug.

Standard is 6

Mine is burning a bit hotter, making the plugs white, so i need a colder plug (or do i have that the wrong way round?) So i shall try a 5

Hi,

Shouldn't be volvo (480 turbo) original ones Bosch WR7DC ? That's what is says in Autodata.

But it also says that the following can be used:

-Autolite APP62
-Beru 14R-7DU
-Champion RN7YC
-NGK ZGR5B-VG

Regards,

Hi Martin,

Didn't you have a play with the CO adjustment screw at some point?

Could it be you are running too rich because of that?

Did you get around to making the A/F gauge as this will help you narrow it down a bit.

I wouldn't because I distinctly remember you comparing Denso with another brand (Bosch?) and then going on to say you'd gone for the non-Denso, ergo, I claim first usage. Because you said Denso didnt do the grade you wanted. I then immediately went and asked the questions of sparkplugs.co.uk and thus ordered Denso because I thought it best for my particular car.

So ner :P
