Zeeland 2007The weekend of May 11th to 13th was time for another maymeeting. Traditionally the weatherforecast was against us, but luckily the weather in Zeeland isn't the same as the rest of Holland. FridayFriday was the arrival day for people that had to travel far, or wanted to enjoy the cosy atmosphere of the weekend to the fullest. Pizza was ordered so we could have a little easy dinner on site.SaturdayThe main day of the meeting was Saturday. We had a windy start, but since it wasn't raining none of us complained. Between 10 and 11 AM most people arrived for the meeting. About thirty Volvo 480 showed up. Until noon everyone had the opportunity to assign beauty-points to all the 480 on the premises. Most people gave it their best effort to make their 480 look best.Image: start of the meeting. At noon we started the tour of the day. Everyone received a route description that led through the varying scenery of Zeeland, and also papers for the treasure hunt. Along the way everybody had to try to spot certain objects, and fill out in or near what town the object was standing. Quite a tough job since you also need to ensure that you don't get lost. Along the way there were some nice photo opportunities: Image: first photomoment. Image: first photomoment. Image: second photomoment (Neeltje Jans). The scenery in Zeeland is very nice and varied. You pass meadows, agriculture, fruit-fields, dunes and so much more. The tour also lead over a section of the famous Deltawerken which were built to protect the land against the see. After a few hours we arrived in Yerseke, hometown of the Dutch mussel- and oysterfleets. We enjoyed a guided tour where we learned a lot about how mussels are grown and harvested, and how oysters are cultivated. It was much more labour-intensive than most of us realised until then. The points for the beauty contest had been counted and it was time to quickly work out who had won the treasurehunt. Since multiple persons had the same amount of points it was time to come up with a shootout question as soon as possible: tell us the length of a 480. Those that answered closest won. At the bottom you will find the scores of all participants, but the winners were: The winners:
Outside the barbecue was completely warmed up, so those that signed up for the barbecue were able to start dining. Baguettes, salads, meat and vegetarian food, everything was available. A big thank you to the weather: we were able to dine outside in the sunshine! SundayJust like last year we managed to pick Mothers day as the third day of our meeting. Perhaps next year we will be more considerate ;-). Around noon everyone gathered on the campsite for the event that concluded this maymeeting: a visit to the local go-kart track. It was very nice to let all the adrenaline out without risking your beloved Volvo or pedestrians. After a few heats it was time to say goodbye, we hope everyone had a wonderful time and that you will all join us again on a next meeting. A big thank you for Vincent, Nelia and Erwin for making all the preparations!Kind regards, The Volvo 480 Club Europe team Total list of scores from the Zeelandmeeting: Beauty contestCalculation of points:
