Re: Roller boot cover on the Bay - too much?
Doesn’t appear to come with the fixings
Re: Roller boot cover on the Bay - too much?
When new, these were only ever an optional extra except on the Celebration, and they were a very expensive optional extra! Hence even today they remain in demand...
The ad states that what you get is exactly what you see in the picture; presumably that means it doesn't come with the mounting brackets. Without those it is useless to anyone looking to upgrade from the standard boot cover.
If it had its mounting brackets, then whilst £120 would be on the steep side I personally wouldn't say it was a "pie in the sky" price. Without the brackets though, no more than half that.
I have just made the following enquiry, which might upset someone's day! I'll update with the response in case anyone on here is interested in this...
Hello!
I might be interested in this - but before I think about spending this sort of money please can you confirm that it does come with the necessary mounting brackets? It's just that you are very clear that what is for sale is what's in the picture and they don't appear. However good the condition of this might be it is totally useless without the mounting brackets to actually fit it!
Many thanks
David

Re: Roller boot cover on the Bay - too much?
Seems perfectly reasonable to me, we paid around the £150 mark for 3 of ours and that was many years ago. They come up for sale so infrequently that I resorted to buying one for £100 without brackets as it wasn't difficult to get a bracket copied through Wayne at WR Components.
I suspect the reply David will get will be the same as we had, that it fits the same brackets as the folding ones. Obviously a misunderstanding based on them using the same clips at the back. Here's hoping this seller has the rest of the car it came from.

Which all goes to prove that the sale value of something is, indeed, what a buyer is willing to pay. Personally I wouldn't be willing to have spent anything like £100 on one of these without the mounting brackets...dragonflyjewels wrote: ↑Mon Feb 01, 2021 9:23 amSeems perfectly reasonable to me, we paid around the £150 mark for 3 of ours and that was many years ago. Re: Roller boot cover on the Bay - too much?
update from the seller:
"I'm afraid I have no mounting brackets for it. From what I remember, the mounts were built into the plastic trim on each side of the boot in my old Celebration. I could be wrong, as it was several years ago now."

Re: Roller boot cover on the Bay - too much?
Thanks Jeff
He also replied to me directly with that, so a good sign of an honest seller!
Just to confirm for anyone considering an upgrade who doesn't know, the brackets are NOT part of the car: each is fixed with 2 screws. 3d printing may well come to the rescue here, but either way bear in mind the cover is useless without the brackets!

Re: Roller boot cover on the Bay - too much?
I guess 3D printing can help, but they are not a difficult shape to make a functional item, simple machine a U slot into a decent size piece of plastic, only cos I have access to scrap plastic.
or if there was a big market then they could be poured from PU same as used for making poly bushes?
