May 2005 - Maymeeting in Luxembourg

Discussions about meetings, both organised by us and by others, can take place here. If you want to organise a meeting yourself, this is the place to start! If you want to inform everyone of a meeting no one might know, feel free to post it here too.

What's happening then ? No e-mail about the meeting, no form to fill in, nothing ? Come on gang, get your skates on, it seems the only meetings that gather any interest are the brit meetings, that's not on !

Ad, you lot have so many meetings, its just not fair on us europeans. Plus, you brits generally can't be bothered to come down here, so why should we bother. I just want some action around this european meeting.

Well I would come to the this meeting but I have a 480 that needs a few expensive parts first. If I remember correctly no Europeans have ventured over seas lately either

There is nothing stopping you from posting another topic on here to arrange your own meeting

Hmm, I'd be inclined to view this the opposite way - maybe Brits can't be bothered going to the continent because you lot have never been bothered to come here.

I remind you that according to recent history, more Brits have attended continental meets than continentals have ever made Brit meets.

THAT is why you should bother, and why Brits shy away from going continental as much as they'd like.

Whatever, but that's not helping the fact that the european meeting doesn't seem to be getting anywhere.

Yesterday evening I put the entire registration stuff online, more info on the meeting and application forms.

http://www.volvo-480-europe.org/clubdat ... 0514-L.php

Please keep in mind you have to be logged in on the website in order to see/use the registration form ;)

Don't worry, it's all going to plan, it's just that due to events we're a bit behind in presenting it all, sorry!

hmmm hostile language here... hey you over there, no flames ! ( U should give the right example ?! )

the funny thing Sophie is british for a large content.

the reason i will not ever attend a 480 meet with my car is that the last time i got there i nearly got killed (got in trouble with my natural instinkt to drive "the right" lane !)

furthermore U never call yourselves european ( though this should be correct), but UK residents...

if i get u right, it is time to set up your own site ? as THIS IS AN EUROPEAN site !
so you have to come here.. ... (?)

this only in answer to ventilated suggestions, (no personal offence, this book is closed for me)

I liked this club as it was, years ago. ...., and still is now , in a smaller way.

Anyone who wants to discus this at the evening fire over a drink, as a friend, is welcome to see me and my enfant terrible ( shabby, experienced gunmetal grey '88 haas turbo).

Hope i havent got to come with something else, like last year...

One more suggestion : is there a way thinkable in which groups of people can interact with eachother more ( like the evening fire!) It took a while last year before the ice broke between french, dutch/flamish and german groups of friends ....

I am realy looking forward to see u all again....

uptil then !
luck,
JPF

Hey JPF, I knew you'd be the one to take the bait

I call myself european, that's no worries - I have good friends in the UK, but also in Holland and Germany, so there's no worries on that score - we must all consider ourselves European over here, else we'd have simply started a UK Volvo480 club waaaay back then when you first piped up with your Xenophobic posts (and they were xenophobic back then) - but we didn't, we chose to stick with the idea of a nice central Euro site.

As an alternative viewpoint here then, since we do NOT have a UK site, surely it is you Dutch, German, French etc etc etc that are all considering yourselves NOT European, since you ALL have broken off and have your own national sites??? But I suppose you think that's OK, and doesn't imply non-europeaness (why then suggest we start a UK site as we obviously do not consider ourselves Euro? That's completely hippocritical)

I really do not see why you get a big bee in your bonnet when people mention meetings - maybe you are jealous because meetings in the UK seem more frequent and successful? I don't know. Noone else ever seems to whinge seriously about this subject but you, why is that?

Remember, it was Sophie, your fellow continental, who started the subject of "you never come over here... bla bla" - how come you didn't comment to her, and it took me laying deliberate bait for you to pipe up and then start bleeting on about UK based Europeans being inferior in your eyes?

Do you really think you do the image of "European" any good?

Again, like the first, this post is intentional bait to inspire discussion and not form personal grievance (of which I have none)

:D

PS: In future years, I'll be all too glad to share a dunkelbier with you around a fire at some continental meet. Can the same be said of you at a UK based meet though?
Cheers!

Dragon, the only thing I was getting at was that if you look though the list of meeting there are loads of them in the UK. Sorry but I can't get to England very often, I've only been back twice in 11years. I hardly get to any meetings so am incredibly happy to go to the "european" meeting. I just felt that because of so many UK meetings, no one cared so much about the Luxemburg one. I expect there are other people like me wwho can't get over the channel lacking money, and saving up for the only meeting they'll go to.

Come on everyone, let's not turn this thread into a "but you never show up" thread. I think I can state that it is fact that more UK members have shown up on European meetings (There are at least 2 UK members coming to Luxembourg, and on the Flevomeeting 2003 we also had UK members present) than Continental members have shown up on UK meetings.

Everyone that wants to come is welcome on both UK and continental meetings, last thing we need is a big discussion about who doesn't come.

So no more replies of this nature please! Thank you.

@dragonI did not take no bite, end this foolish discussion of putting a wedge in this consept the two of you over there. its not worth it.
I am free to speak my mind.. stop about xenofobia, .., compare now and then, maybe i was right, maybe just a little fear. I will leave judging to others.( and that is, provided no further flames, the end of this for me., no worries, coyote)

I wil attend a britisch meet.... on foot ... once . I am a man of my word ( note that I didn't say when :-)

I will personal buy U a bottle of "glen fiddichs" if you dare to come dragon , WITH your 480 ...

so, end to all bullshit, ... please note we had 1200 and more views to this topic. Its a runner, like other years...

I will be there
luck,
JPF
