oil temprerature sensor location

Here you can talk about the joy owning a Volvo 480 brings. Non-technical discussions take place here, like what is the difference between an ES and a S version.

oil temprerature sensor location

Post by suddy » Tue May 17, 2005 5:42 pm

Where is the oil temp sensor, or where should it be? With me only having an S, the oil temperature sensor is missing and i'd like to fit one.

Could do with it to get full use out of my newly fitted infocentre!

cheers

It's near alternator in engine block. I have no pics now of that maybe I'll have tommorow.

It is down near the sump. Under the oil pressure sensor. There should be a 4 pin connector there. If you don't have the IC then I guess there will be a blank bolt screwed into the hole.

The sensor also houses the oil level sensor, so if you plug it in, then that should also work too :)

Isn't oil pressure sensor in the back of the engine? I thought that oil temp sensor is in the front of the engine. I unconnected it and there was no oil temp.

The oil pressure sensor is under the spark plugs and next to the oil filter (left side)

There is another location for it on the back of the engine too though, the 87 ES I raced had it there. I don't think they put it there very often.
Think this is where the confusion has arisen.
