Bleed Nipple snapped off but not leaking brake fluid!???????

Post by catgroom » Thu Mar 31, 2005 7:02 pm

So,I dont know whether or not to drive my car.The bleed nipples on front were well seized.Mole grips on one, that did the job.The drivers side one snapped off at the caliper. An assistant pumped the brake pedal and no fluid spurting out so,as I have to drive this 2moro,I wanna know exactly how much brakes I actually have

Heeeelp!

did it turn at all before snapping off mate?
If it turned AT ALL, i would not risk it, you don't want the blockage clearing suddenly now do you?
If it didn't turn at all then it is essentially still closed, so you should be ok, just in need of a s / hand caliper.

Just don't take a chance if you are not surre.

Phewy!!!!!

Chris could you put me straight on something brake-wise mate???

I recently heard that the "signal" at first goes to the rear brakes before the front momentarily, hence them being a lot more important than just some pissy rear efforts that do about a 1/4 of the work!!!

Okay, this is leading somewhere.I have no spare caliper YET.So,if I just bled the rears, woudl I get out much of the air that so obviously in the system???Added to which, could I even bleed the 3 i can,I gues that would relieve more air, yes, but give uneven front braking perhaps!!!!!??????

Heavens knows why I loosened the top on the brake fluid reservoir, old mechanics habits dying hard or some bollocks like that!!!

So what size ring spanner does actually fit the flippin bleed screw then as another just broke off but higher up at the end.......

Its like driving a flippin death sentence on alloys!!!!!!!

I gotta make it to flippin BatCave to help with MHUKs poor baby next weekend. All because I left the top off the reservoir out of habit-when there was no neeeeeeeeeed! Its the little things that get ya every time eh?!!!!!

mr groom how you doing ,i take it you have not heard of a brake spanner which is designed specifically for un doing nipples, they are just a beafy hexagon , and i'm sure the nipple is 9mm, brake spanners come 7/9mm 9/11mm and are about £3 from a tool shop(i.e not halfords).

but i will 100% garauntee that with you some mole grips and put them on the nipple and adjust them so there is no way you could close them buy hand ,then close them with a pair of big swan necks, i used to remove motorbike engine exaughst studs this way when snapped.Hit the mole grips with a hammer without hitting the undo spring.and when taking them out prize the mole grip spring with long screwdriver or it will more than likely hurt your hand.
140mph for £175 just test the brakes

Tried these first but rounded off due to rust being the more stubborn of the 2!!!! This is the silly thing Tim,I knew I was using the same tools as last time,so used a 7mm after using a brake spanner!!!!Asked which size just to check it wasn't me.....

And yes,Im not a cunt I have heard of a brake spanner,Im a semi-skilled mech, not that its helping me much at the mo!!!!!! ;)
