Ebay Heap

Cleaned up the garage, found parts laying around, but it turned out to be a complete Volvo 480? If you want to sell your car (480 only) you can place an advert here.

Ebay Heap

Post by Martin Mc » Mon Sep 12, 2022 12:10 pm

Had to laugh - the joker selling this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/255721971390 ... R8rd0pjmYA on FleaBay says in his advert, "Never been welded as far as I'm aware" !!

So, I did the usual MOT Check...The stuff in bold might be a little clue.

Also, he says, "Reads 51K" but forgets to add, "...since clocks replaced at 210K in 2010" :)

Some folk eh?

The holes in the seat bolster, driver's carpet etc might be another clue.

A bag o spares, not much more, methinks..

To give credit where credit is due, the seller has taken some relatively honest pictures of the car - he hasn't tarted it up like that white ES for sale a while back.
Although I do agree the description is a lie. That is most certainly NOT a 50k mile interior!

Just from the information given, and what I can see, it would need AT LEAST:
- Front bumper
- N/S Indicator DRL unit
- O/S DRL lens
- maybe a new N/S front wing
- Front spoiler
- N/S Front fog lamp
- Dash surround
- Plus lots of other small interior & exterior parts.

In regards to the rear arches, I've definitely seen worse. However, the thing that does worry me is this:
Offside Outer Seat belt anchorage prescribed area strength or continuity significantly reduced sill
Nearside Outer Seat belt anchorage prescribed area strength or continuity significantly reduced sill

However, that mileage though  I know Joep Vrijling (RIP) owned a 480 with 314k miles, but that had the more durable B20F and was clearly looked after far better than this example. I don't know how rare or expensive replacement Turbo components are, but I fear that engine (and possibly transmission) is a ticking time bomb.

The problem with the bits it needs, is that its the bits everybody needs.... thus a struggle.

Then....
Transmission = Unique to the turbo, unobtainium
Service parts for engine = Same as 1.7 really.

If that 200k miles had service history to back it up, it wouldn't be an issue.

It hasn't? oh.........

Poor thing. Always sad to see the Grim Reaper hovering over a Turbo.

Well, its back on eBay for an astonishing £1,650 after failing to sell for less than half that last month.
I wonder if the winning bidder was a typical eBay timewaster or a genuine buyer who then realised how dishonest the seller was upon collection...
This is a £500 car max.

I suspect the seller “sold” it to himself…..

He clearly failed to check the car when he originally saw it, and is now desperately trying to claw back his outlay.

As a car to “sell on”, it’s an absolute non starter.
As a car to own? Well, priced correctly it’d be your last chance to get in on a “ground level” for turbo ownership. A rolling restoration is ALWAYS possible, and because you’d be spending money over years, less “big bang”.
