Hampshire-Lincolnshire Meet 7th - 8th Aug 21

Post by dragonflyjewels » Mon Apr 19, 2021 7:25 pm

This will (hopefully) be a 2 day meet. The plan is to start in the south of Hampshire on Saturday morning and have an overnight stay in Northampton on Saturday evening. Then Sunday will be the Northampton to Lincolnshire run we've done before. Details to follow - but pencil the date/s in if you'd like to join us for part or all of the weekend.

After the tedium of lockdowns, 2 whole 480 days will be a welcome treat ! Always assuming of course we aren't in lockdown 3

o drat - 2 spanners in the works ! There are so many events postponed until later in the summer, dates are proving tricky. We are still waiting to hear if our July holiday will go ahead (scientific expedition to north Germany to track wolves plus a long-overdue visit to my daughter and grandson). Al hasn't been shooting since November 19 so I was quite surprised he has just volunteered to give up a shoot on the 7th August as I'm not available for the rest of August. The other downside of that weekend is that there is racing at Cadwell Park on the 8th which will probably mean no photo shoot but we can live with that.

So, how does 7th-8th suit ?

7th August is good for me, presume 8th as well, do you want me to scout for good locations?

It looks like either the last weekend in July or first weekend in August can work for the Hampshire to Lincs event. Fingers crossed!

Dates changed - 7th - 8th it is.
do you want me to scout for good locations?
Thanks for the offer, all suggestions very welcome, it's always useful to have eyes on the ground. Top priority is of course a good big carpark.

We will be spending an extra day in the area after the Yeovil breakfast club as well to check ideas out. Our previous runs to Hampshire have ended at Goodwood for a photo shoot outside the gates but that's a lot of mileage to stopover in Northampton. I'll be investigating Thruxton instead so the route will be different for this one.

Thruxton is 15 minutes from me, and they usually have space for stuff, usually no one about, but It would be wise to check before committing, although they would be perfect as the paddock is usually open.

I don't usually repeat the same word so much :D

Another shout is the Winchester Autobarn, I am with them on Instagram so will send them a message to see if they are up for being a meeting place (probably will be as it is something they can put on their social media)

Thanks to Ben for the suggestion of meeting up at the Winchester Auto Barn - sadly his enquiries elicited the information that they will be closed, but there will be a coffee van outside and there are toilets so it will still make a good meeting place for Saturday morning.

Saturday night we will be staying in the Wootten Travelodge on the edge of Northampton (NN4 0TG). Anyone else wanting to stay Saturday night can make their own booking on the Travelodge website - the sooner you book, the cheaper it is. I'd recommend going for the free cancellation option just in case.

Sunday night we will have a meal at the Royal Oak (aka The Splash) at Little Cawthorpe LN11 8LZ. Al and I will stay overnight, anyone wanting to to join us can book on 01507 600750. They currently have 5 double rooms available and 1 single, it's £80 for a double with breakfast included.

Full details of the schedule for both days will be posted here as soon as I get it all finalised.

For anyone who hasn't been to a meet before, I will make the bookings for meals so (hopefully) we will all be on one big table. As usual, everyone is welcome regardless of whether they are in a 480 or not, and do feel free to join for as much of the weekend as suits you. Just let me know where you plan to join so I can make sure we don't leave anyone behind if things change on the day. I'll need to know approximate numbers nearer the time, so please either post on here or pm me to let me know. For anyone who hasn't been before or who has changed their mobile number, please pm me that as well so we can stay in touch.

Oooh, I only just noticed the date has changed for this! Great.

I’ll book us in at Northampton for the Saturday night (once I check my diary and make sure I’m free!)

Is this the same Travelodge to meet at on the Sunday morning as before?

I was awaiting a response from TL and since then that room has shot up more than £20….. so, being tight (and for those just as penny pinching as I), the Upton Way one is cheaper at the moment and only 4 miles away! Haha. So, we’re booked in there and will join on the Sunday morning at Wooten for breakfast. 🙂

Ok this is looking good, I can deffo do the Thruxton bit, and will be happy to join, not totally sure how far I will be able to drive with you guys, depends on if it is A,B or M roads and how far, but guess it is one way of getting experience!

I know the way up to Silverstone pretty much, and it takes me through the range of my favourite radio station, so yes I can definitely go that far I would say

That's great, look forward to seeing you again - will your dad come along ? He's as interesting to talk to as you, perhaps he'd regale us with some more of his motor cycling exploits :D
