Volvo Enthusiasts Club

Here you can talk about the joy owning a Volvo 480 brings. Non-technical discussions take place here, like what is the difference between an ES and a S version.

Volvo Enthusiasts Club

Interesting article on page 6 of Classic car weekly. The (VEC) is releasing servicing documents and tools rescued from volvo cars technical training centre for cars sold in the U K from 1957 to 2010. This includes all the 400 range and includes part books, repair methods and technical bulletins. The volvo enthusiasts club will have access to the library, sounds interesting for us.

Technical training centre, is that where my training booklet would have come from then?

Very nice. Unfortunately you will die from boredom when you talk to them about it though ;-)

wot 480 not a 'real' Volvo . . .. . .
same as C30/S40/V50 being Ford, earlier S40 being a Mitsubishi ?

we have something similar for WWII Jeeps, though not quite like that. We have the Jeep Police, who will inspect and analyse your vehicle and denote how accurate it is to the week of production, even down to the size of nuts that are used

We belong to the VEC, some of them are anti 480s, most others are not and the president's daily runner is a 480 Celebration. He also owns the actual 1800 used to film The Saint, so he's highly respected (Kevin Price).

There is a breakaway group who have set up a rival club and given it the same name (damn cheek). The original club has the co.uk website, the rebels have .org and they ARE snobby about 480s.

Ah, sounds like the Volvo Klassiekervereniging, the official Dutch Volvo classics club. "No true Volvo!" one of their officials told me, "the quality is Volvo unworthy!". I almost punched the bloke in the face. I am a member of their club though, because they have to admit members to their club with a Volvo of at least 25 years of age. If you can't beat them, join them, and keep your friends close but keep your enemies closer.

I'd like a copy at some point, will they release them in a PDF format? For the 460

HI - yes it's true. There was about half a tonne of files containing books that have now been ordered and archived - which took me many evenings last winter.

For the 400-series, there's 9 large folders, which include parts books and hand-written notes from the training centre back in the day. 200 and 700 series make up the bulk. Most of the material is 440 and 480 specific. 460 is seen as a 440, aside from having two unique books dedicated to the body and trim.

As with all clubs, it is a volunteer (i.e. me!) fielding individual member requests, meaning that copying complete green books and uploading as PDFs isn't viable. For the 480, we've had queries about the fuel pressure regulator and front damper/spring specifications. Yet, all the books are in the warm and dry, so the info has been saved.

You'd probably find plenty of volunteers on here that'd happily scan to PDF for you.

We've already started with our own personal collection! I'd love to see some of the handwritten notes, just from a curiosity point of view! Oh and a more up to date version (and RHD version) of the parts book than the one we've got (if such a thing existed!)

I'm sure plenty of enthusiasts would like to scan the material but I don't fancy having answer to VC UK for copyright infringement, should the material appear online.

The idea is to offer an extra service to VEC club members to help with any faults they have. More details in the next club mag.
