The waterfalls mini meet

Here you can talk about the joy owning a Volvo 480 brings. Non-technical discussions take place here, like what is the difference between an ES and a S version.

The waterfalls mini meet

Post by Norm57 » Mon Jan 20, 2020 10:06 am

Hi all, as you may have seen on Martins new year new 480 thread, I was thinking of a northern mini meet. So have decided to start a new thread (thanks Martin). It is looking like the 15th of March and as a rough guide to anyone interested will start and finish in Skipton. Distance of about 80 miles and will take in Aysgarth West Burton and Linton falls. Also includes Ribblehead viaduct and Hawes. For a meal I was thinking of the Fountaine inn at Linton which is a very scenic spot but not a large pub. Because of this the sooner I can firm up some numbers of anyone interested the sooner I can book the meal. I am of course open to suggestions on route and pub choice and look forward to any thoughts members may have. Cheers

Norman

Hello good folks of the Wedgie persuasion :)

Just wondered if anyone else was contemplating an early season jaunt from Skipton (in addition to the four or five of us signed up so far)?

Looking forward to it - I hope to have tidied up my new ride even more by that stage... now replete with complete new braking system front and rear, and will have had cambelt done by that stage. The odd rust streak and barnacle will have been removed and repainted, and with any luck a full polish to make her look like new :)(or at least a very well kept 26 year old)

Come on now folks, you know you want to!!

Given the way the weather is going, it might be a case of airbags and water-wings for anyone contemplating the run out on 15th March !

So far we have Norm, David, Nigel and me, and Rachel thinking about it...- Any more possibles?

I've not done much to my car yet - minor rust treatment, oil and filter change, all the braking system replaced, MP3 & bluetooth stereo update. Need to get the cambelt changed and sort out the high idling thing. In other news the weird dancing pop ups seem to have sorted themselves out.

Have we finalised a start point and itinerary for the day? Looking forward to the meet up

ha ha, life jackets provided Martin. My celeb is in for M O t on wed, so will sort meal after that. Just need a rough idea of numbers to book it. Start and finish will be the car park behind town hall in Skipton for 10 o’clock, then thru Settle to Ribblehead,Hawes, Aysgarth, West Burton, Linton and pub for about four or five o’clock. Hope this is ok
With everyone. Norm

I would love to be 100% certain but still not ready to even book in for MOT yet.
I've a week off next week but the weather doesn't look like it will be too kind once again, so nothing is certain.
I've cleared that day anyway on the off chance.

Looking forward to this - provided everyone has a working car to attend in!!

Norm - hopefully your fan etc can be fixed fairly soon?

Will - is there anything in particular that you need to get sorted for the MOT? Shout if you'd like a hand, I'm only in Alne...

Martin - looking forward to seeing your latest acquisition; not sure yet which one I'll be in but I realise you might like to see how Nilani is coming along.

Nigel - you seem to be the only one without issues at the moment! Look forward to seeing you again with your hopefully still working odometer?

All the best

Cheers David, right now I'm just filling in a couple holes which I too eagerly made in my arches. Really don't think they would have passed MOT but I don't know how poke friendly the testers are. Just going to get it primed for the test, not going full clearcoat yet.
After that I want to put a bit of new underseal on the rear, but need to find the air compressor paint sprayer. That's not necessary for the MOT but I don't want to put the bumper on and take it off again to get the right coverage.
Lastly I still need to put new fogs in the front, hopefully shouldn't be an issue just investing my time into these other bits right now.

I think the modern MoT tester is issued with a small toffee hammer & tooth brush. . .

I have been know to use a chipping hammer and twisted wire brush on angle grinder especially on the SS1 :(

you have got to be more gentle with a modern car as it's not 16 gauge steel (even when new!)
and yes I now seem to have added ventilation (used angle grinder to remove some 'bubbly paint) on the rear arch (O/S) of Eva, easily fixed though . . . . .
