Front and Rear Light Clusters - problem solved !

Cleaned up the garage and found some parts you want to sell? Or are you looking for that one part? You can advertise or request just about anything that has to do with the Volvo 480 in here: brochures, towing-hooks, antenna's, etc etc...

Hear hear, this is great stuff to definitely be watched very closely! Both my sets of rear lights are pretty good at the moment but they won't stay like that forever...

Thank you 😊

Same here; lights in good condition, but I’ll still buy a couple of sets as there’s no guarantee that these will be made forever.

unfortunately, when I was speaking to the gentleman via email they're limiting it to one set per person!

Not quite, it's one set per car, you have to send a scan of page 2 of the V5, so currently jifflemon can order 3 sets, dcwalker can get 2 and I could order 3 more - another reason for entering multiple-480 ownership !

Presumably to stop the profiteering? If so I applaud.

now who wants to buy a set of shiny new back lights? 3 pairs available, lets start the a thousand euro a set.....

exactly !! Their aim was to help 480 owners, not get used as a wholesale supplier. Totally unfair given the favour the man making them is doing us.

just how many V5 do you have

I only have two, but not really needing any (at present) :hopping:

I can live with the 'slightly' faded/matt finish, might be easier to apply a matte finish to the central section rather than make the outer two sections shiney/glossy?

Hi,

My 480 has just failed its MOT on the state of the rear light clusters. Can anyone advise me if the plans to manufacture new ones ever came to anything? Or suggest anything else. The car runs beautifully and I hate the idea of scrapping it just for this.

What was wrong with yours? you can usually clean them up to an acceptable standard.

explain 'why'?
lack of colour?
wrong colour?
showing white not coloured?
shattered?

if push came to shove just fit a trailer board (or the lamps from one) to keep within legal limit?

I think you could rub with with baby oil (or similar) and go for a retest should you need it back on the road quickly. If they fail when oiled, your MOT tester is probably a dick‎. They will return to their matt state eventually but this should get you a quick pass.

The repro lenses are definitely in the pipeline so don't give up on a good car !

need to get a reason as to why it failed before we second guess?

i don't know why matt finish would be a fail???

could be the plastic is trashed an all in small bits? in which case see previous post about trailer lamps?

Don't know how strict your MOT rules are; here in its country of origin the rules state that no white light may extrude and the lights must have the same luminosity and correct colour (tail/brake lights red, indicators amber). The smoked plastic cover is only for cosmetic purposes, there is a coloured piece of plastic underneath. So even when they are cracked, there should be no failure.
I always use boiled linseed oil to make the lights shine again.

Thanks for the advice everyone. Polished up the rear clusters and I hope they'll do. However, now discovered the MOT have taken exception to the cracked offside full beam front light cover too. Anyone know where i might get one of these?Image

do you mean the driving light? or the pop-up? your image is missing :-(

if you struggle for clear cover for the driving light then 'I think' you can remove BOTH bulbs and pull the fuse as they are NOT required for the test .. .

search within MoT test manual on DVLA web-site

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/mot-inspect ... l-vehicles

ie if items are there they must work as a pair, if an optional item then disable BOTH and say 'decoration only'?
