Vibration noise

Post by teschio79 » Wed Aug 14, 2019 12:28 pm

Good morning , i had Bought a 95 turbo past week ( about 20 years ago my first car was a 1990 white turbo ).
The car is in very good conditions, but there is only a problem, around 1800-2500 rpm the noise is very loud. Seems that the engine transmitt the vibration to all the car , i think there is some problems with subframe silent block , correct? What can i do for change ?

Hello,

Based upon experience and reading on here, this is likely to be the rear gearbox mount‎ (often called engine mount). Of course you could be lucky and just have a misaligned exhaust.

You can't get new ones so if it is this, you'll have to get one from a scrapped car (all later cars have the same type, which is quieter but more fragile than the ‎earlier type).

Use the search function on here for 'rear engine mount' and 'rear gearbox mount' and you should find plenty of info. ‎

is the car manual or automatic?

You need to get someone to load the engine (automatic - Put in drive whilst holding the brake, Manual, hold at biting point on clutch) whilst watching the engine.

the engine should move slightly - if the mount has gone, it'll leap about!

I'd use REVERSE so that the mount will try and part away from the steel base plate/ sub-frame?

Ah, very good point! Yes, reverse gear would show it up much better

Possible subframe bushes?

turning steering wheel suggests to me an issue with power steering, check fluid level first?

Fluid is ok. I mean that when Turn The strearing , The subframe is more solicited and vibrations increases.

Maybe i seen the gear mount damaged, if i move the engine with hands there is a suspect movement on that mount. But my question is : in that car, Whit 150000 km and 23 years hold , is better to change all the rubber parts? Like all the engine mounts and the bushing subframe?
Someone can tell me What is the exact code for gear mount? Is a 95 turbo manual. Thanks everyone wanna help me

REAR engine mounts are NOT available, although it appears that there is an ALFA part which might fit, assuming that they are available, which might not be the casse .. . .

do a search for 'rear engine mount' and you will find the trail
