Sealing the rear lights

Everything that doesn't belong in the previous categories probably belongs here. Interiour (how are the seats mounted? how to remove the CEM?) and exteriour (how to replace the popup-lights shock absorbers or a door) are discussed here!

Can I add myself to the want list please?

Could someone PM me Joep's details so I can see how to obtain his new seals?

Thanks and Best Regards,

Jay. :D

I have bought Joeps seals in the past when I replaced both my back light clusters. They do the job as good as the original ones. But you may need to add some clear silicon sealant on top of that if you want to get a complete full sealing of the lights. One another design defect in our beloved 480s.

Hi all, have tried to pm Joep regarding rear light seals but does not appear to have sent( end of last month). If anyone has his email would much appreciate it. Hope he is still making them!

He’s absolutely still doing them - I’ve had a set in the last month or so. I usually contact him via Facebook, so if you need me to check with him, drop me a pm with the email address you used to contact him and I can ask him to check.

NEVER forget the top nut when removing the lamps, we don't want any breakages!

Spend time cleaning off all the old sealant from both the metalwork and the lights.

Sticky side goes to the lights. Practise placing them on a few times BEFORE removing the backing tape, as they stick very well!

Tighten lamps in VERY gently and evenly.

Am i correct? There are only 3 nuts holding the lense in place. Have undone these but cannot shift it. Do not want to force it for obvious reasons£££££

Sorry!‎

If you think they are sealed in, then you might have to abandon the removal idea and apply more sealant.

However, the original seals (foamy rubber like what Joep sold you or earlier a butyl tape) might just be very well adhered to the paint. Mine came out with patience and ‎a very thin pallet knife. It is like a wallpaper scraper but thinner. One false move though and they could crack so be very very careful and work your way around the lights and resist the temptation to lever anything until the very end. ‎

Wishing you the best of luck!‎

 yep, that's 480s for you!

Good work though, and hopefully you'll soon be able to report that no water is getting in that way now...

Both rear lights resealed and replaced :D have added a thin run of clear sealant to top for added security. So tomorrow when it gets a wash will see how effective my handy work is! Here's hoping.
