speedo cogwheel Joep fix...

From CEM to VEM, from LED to lightbulb and more. If you have an electrical problem, like a broken info-centre, search for answers in this category. This is also the place to be when you expect the problem to be of an electrical nature...

Check this out:

and use Google translate. A personal addition to how to remove the needle: Grap it under the hood and turn it anti-clockwise while lifting. Be brave, it will work.
And when the frontplate is glued remove it with the blade of a Stanley knife. Watch the small notches though, do not cut them.
You will understand this abracadabra when you hold the stuff in your hands.

Some weird errors in that Dutch. If you need help with a line post it here and I or another helpful member will help translate it.

I too have just got mine.

Looked everywhere to find a business that would do it - but couldn't had to do it myself!

The pics are fantastic and I had no problems (apart from one) changing the cog and it works - MANY THANKS to Joep for being able to supply it.

HOWEVER a word of caution which gave me an issue and may not have done had a read the instructions. When removing the needle for the speedo make sure the force is on the actual needle where is connects around the bit which goes on the spindle - the fork is a great idea but make sure you fully put the fork under so the force is ver localised. I DIDN'T and havbe had to glue the fixing back in my needle.

Just put it back and all works well apart from info centre which has now stopped. (was working fine before)

It also helps having the right tools......... (hex keys, small screwdrivers)

I would very much like to publish the article in the Volvo Owners Club magazine.

Is someone able to communicate with the author and ask his permission? (Sorry I can't write/speak Dutch!)

It would also be great if they could email me the original pics.

Thanks

Chris

There's no alan key needed. It's either a phillips screwdriver of a Torx T10 you need.

For those that will repair their speedometers themselves: NEVER USE A FORK!!! That will break the needle.

And for those in need of a cogwheel: check out http://www.volvo480forum.com or their Facebook page: They sell them for €13,50.
