Re: Central door locking
Seriuosly dont its so much trouble that it is not worth it. Had 2 480s with remotes 1 professionaly installed along with thacham alarm (toad ??) + certificate and had to remove both due to random malfunctions.

Re: Central door locking
oh and a system like that shown in the picture would require a remotely controlled motor unit to be fitted in the drivers door.
do yourself a big favour and forget it .

Re: Central door locking
NO but not worth the effort IMHO
I still have the door with the extra motor remote unit in it and it did work for a while then it stopped and then started then failed at all the wrong times and places so I killed the system.

Re: Central door locking
surely, you only need to contact the microswith on the back of the drivers door lock barrel to activate the original locking. leave everything in place. just relay that microswitch from the remote control box, momentarily making contact as if the drivers door key is turned.

Re: Central door locking
Regardless of how easy /straightforward it sounds in real life the system is prone to random malfunction and is not worth the effort.

Re: Central door locking
it sent my pacemaker haywire. not wort the trouble. someone joined a couple of relays to my car under the dash and put two buttons on the dash to lock/unlock the car quickly inside.never caused any trouble. activated alarm and everything as normal when key was out of ignition.

Re: Central door locking
can post pictures and wiring all done in driver footwell if necessary. think it was done by the original lady owner at volvo for safety at night.
the rest is all down to how reliable your radio reciever is, you want a keeloq hopping transmission protocol if you want it secure. If someone 'grabs' your signal with a scanner, it wont work beacuse the code changes every time you open/close the doors with millions of combinations. A very common standard in car security but check if the unit has it otherwise its likely cheap junk.

Re: Central door locking
Svenska axel, your system will be working because the modifier (Volvo) will have added an extra motor to the driver's door lock.
It can definitely be copied but as standard the car is only capable of automatically locking the passenger's door on its own.
Volvo had this as standard on the USA-spec 480 prototype and the lock button, to lock all doors like yours, was activated by the switch we have as a blank next to the longrange headlights switch in the centre console, next to the heated seat switches.

Re: Central door locking

Re: Central door locking
Nope, no 480 I've ever had does. It's a bloody good mod though that I've got the bits to do but never the time!
