Alloy Wheel Changeover

Post by cr9ig » Wed Feb 05, 2014 2:05 pm

Hi, I've recently seen a set of second hand Borbet A wheels in good condition for sale locally and think they may look rather smart on my Celebration, it currently has the standard Celebration wheels fitted.
The new wheels are the correct PCD but have an offset of 20 and are 7.5" wide, as I understand it the 480's should have an offset of 32-38!
Does anybody have experience of fitting wheels with similar issues? I just wonder how it may affect the car if at all?

Thanks
Craig

I've been looking into the same type of wheels for my car.
I understand that the standard wheels for a celeb is 15x6.5 et38, mine are 14x6.5 et38.
the Borbet's are 16x7.5 et20.
I've been trying to work out the dimensions to see how much the rear of the new wheels would stick out and therefore likely to cause rubbing. But I'm having a lot of trouble.
You'll probably need a set of spigot rings for the centre bores. I believe the Volvos' are 51.2mm.
There are always ample warnings and there are always subtle signs,
And you would have seen them coming but we gave you too much time.

I think I've finally managed to work out the dimensions.
According to what I've worked out the Borbet's should sit with 30mm extra facing out and have 5mm less at the back of the wheel than the standard 15's.
The only thing to think about is the increase from 15 to 16", though a decrease in the tyre profile should compensate.

Someone else's opinion or experience would be good. As from the rim point of view everything looks ok.

Hi, Have a look at this site:

http://www.willtheyfit.com/

Seems to give a pretty good idea of how it affects the placement of the wheel, I was just wondering has anybody had issues with handling after changing wheels with the incorrect offset?

AcidicDavey fitted a set of VW wheels to his 480 and it seemed to work well.

I've got 10mm spacers on mine and I think it corners better, I only ever get slight rear rubbing on the outer arch when driving like an absolute tool with a boot full.

I'm on Taurus wheels with 195/50/15s and it's lowered about 2".

Hammers can't fix a 480!!!

Looking for some 16s any tips for advice on dimensions that would go on fairly easy?
