After finding I have a rear wiper parking issue on the new 480 I cut back the very perished rubber over the wiring into the tailgate and found this! It's amazing anything works back there at all!
I might have discovered why the rear wiper won't park..

Well I've fixed it for now by soldering together the broken wire and putting some heat shrink over it.
I have also re insulated the other wires with electrical tape as they look a state but are actually still holding ok. I then just wrapped up the whole thing with electrical tape until I get the correct size heat shrink in and then use that instead when I have more time.
I didn't want to cut out all the offending wires right now as the seals to the body and the tailgate are ok and I would have to spend a lot more time with silicone sealant etc.
I'm just happy that the rear wiper is fixed. WOOHOOO! One job down.

I hope your repair will last. Else read stuck with replacing rear window wiring loom to get inspiration for the job.

Thanks for that mate.Van wrote:I hope your repair will last. Else read stuck with replacing rear window wiring loom to get inspiration for the job.
I have ordered in some 24mm 3:1 black adhesive lined heat shrink to go over all the wires. Once fitted it will really keep it watertight and take the strain off the wires. Plus it will look neat.
I'm not happy leaving it all just wrapped up in electrical tape but it's better then it was for the time being.

That sounds good. Replacing them is a terrible job.

Yeah I don't want to do it if I don't have too and the actual wires apart from the broken one are holding pretty well, It's mainly the insulation that has fallen apart. I recon it will be ok once the glue lined heatshrink has worked it's magic.Van wrote:That sounds good. Replacing them is a terrible job.
It looked like a hell of a job when you did yours!
