for what is this sensor?

From CEM to VEM, from LED to lightbulb and more. If you have an electrical problem, like a broken info-centre, search for answers in this category. This is also the place to be when you expect the problem to be of an electrical nature...

Links to pictures do not work.

if its the oil pressure sensor it will be at the front of the engine, just to the lower left of the oil filter

With 4 connectors on top, it is the combined oil level and oil temperature sensor for the Information Centre - if it has only 2 connectors, it is the oil level sensor (before chassis 519640 these were separate sensors).

The oil pressure sensor is more like a blob on the backside of the engine, on the right side (that is close to the timing belt), below the fuel injectors. It is hardly possible to take a picture of it (with the engine in the car).

It has two connectors, one (yellow wire) to the oil pressure gauge and one (white-black) to switch on/off the warning light on the dashboard.

I have a 1986 1.7 non-turbo - yours maybe different!
