Mot failed on Offside Rear Parking brake recording little or no effort. [3.7.A.7A].
Garage is saying that the Pads are breaking up as well so they need to be replaced. He said there was a problem associated with the fulcrum. His suggested ball park figure for repairs was about £186 plus £50 if the cable needed to be replaced.
Does this sounds reasonable? How difficult a job is it if I were to do it myself?
Cheers
Tee

Re: Advice on repair for rear parking break cable and pads.
A hand brake cable new cost only around £10 and its an easy job to fit.
New set of brake pads are not expensive either.
a second hand brake caliper can be bought for about £25 second hand on this forum
so all you need to buy is a brake connector pipe on top of that and new from euro car parts is quite cheap .
All in replacing caliper , pads , pipe and hand brake cable (+ brake fluid) would only be £75 or less. Then just doing the rest yourself not that difficult , start and finish in a day easy and thats taking it slowly and easily. A new caliper would be more expensive but you get money back on your old caliper.
£235 you have to be joking a trained mechanic would would do this all in about 2 hours max
dont believe these price then go on ebay and eurocarparts and see for yourself.

Ok, the things I need and was quoted:
Offside rear caliper : Aprox £180
Offside rear handbrake cable : Aprox £130
Rear Pads Aprrox £80.
All these prices include fitting and VAT.
Does this seem reasonable?

Re: Advice on repair for rear parking break cable and pads.
rear pads £12
NOS handbrake cable £12
new rear caliper £80 ? might be a bit more .
new flexihose £12 ?
brake fluid £3
above includes vat
time (for a garage ) 2hours
diy it yourself.
I already have given you prices , check them on ebay and eurocarparts . For me taking my time and with no ramps etc it will take an afternoon . But then I dont do this everyday and because its the brakes I go slowly and double check everything , its not difficult.
