I currently have a RWD, although it's got an auto box and it's a barge (not a Volvo). It's designed to understeer before it does anything approaching oversteer, makes it safer apparently!

Hopefully for 2009 - 1.7 Turbo.

a red block turbo is the engine used in 240,740,960 ect big 4 cyl volvos.called a 'b' engine.eg the 2.0l is b20, 2.3=b230, 2.4 version as well.they are called red block because the blocks were usually painted in red.they are good for tuning because they were very common engines and are propper volvo(very strong over engineered).the early ones in the 740 tic had forged crank, pistons and rods as standard-beautiful. they are 8v versions but the later 960 got a 16v head made by cosworth i believe.these can be used to convert 8v to 16v.as they are so strong massive power gains can be achieved with a big turbo low comp.ive seen them putting 500hp and 700+ nm torgue. they slot straight into 360 volvo because they run b20 red block.clutch and mounts bolt straight on.300-400hp 360 easily achieved.great fun

The 340 was always a good motor to my old man, and from memory the breaks are way better than a 400 series. might take a lil effort to get it moving but will stop on a sixpence (the handbreak is much better as well, despite been drums, cant get my 440 to even consider an attempt at a handbreak turn).
Well done, and when your bored with the 1.4 engine, chuck a b18ft in!

i really miss that prop-shaft rattle tick over.
and the quarter turn wheel before it start to change path.
i loved it. had 1.4 hatch back red d plate absolutely mint condition , written off by sister snapping telegraph pole from ground at 50mph.didnt even crack windscreen.door opened (and closed )normally and she emerged with just soreness from seatbelt.fire man said seen similar with other cars people taken away in sack.always remember to look out of window when tuning radio. after this i had 1.7 340 saloon.didnt want to take any chances.

Falling out of love with the 340 , too busy stripping a 480 just now but the 340 is teeing me off something not right . hell today worked out getting 86 miles to 30 ltrs of fuel fecking petrol leak just sussed out that the carb is leaking (main leak ) and the link pipe to the fuel pump is perished. Took top lid off the carb and one flap is missing , and link rod not connected. will need to sort out carb tomorrow as a matter of urgency.
Beginning to lose faith a bit think I will call the car bernard cos its a turkey!
well tomorrow is when it gets sorted or else will move it on. I just wanted a reliable shed. I never have any luck will with 300 series

spent a little bit of time today working on her and feeling a bit better.
the starting problems have been narrowed down to a sticky starter.
the petrol leak sorted by replacing hose with a 480 hose .
put 1 ltr of fuel in a suposedly empty tank went straight to 3/4 full so a dodgy sender unit.
fixed disconnect in webber carb.
then went and broke a breather pipe tee connector

if its the twin barrel carb like mine had they are a nightmare.apparently the heat can distort the thing causing all sorts of problems.i looked down the main barrel one day when it wouldnt start thinking lack of fuel, and petrol was peeing from the accelerator pump pipe for no good reason.
i seem to remember there is only one choke flap on a twin barrel as the other side doesnt open till you floor the throttle.a choke wouldnt work unless you started it flat out.that was on a 1.7 gle.cant remember the 1.4 setup.
