Hey guys,
Just sorting out some detials before I properly get stuck into this engine transplant.
I figure that whilst the engine is out I wanna be able to do as much work on it as possible, so i'm looking to buy everything I need before hand. One of these things includes the clutch. I've done a bit of research in the forum and found that the common replacements are Sachs, Volvo, and Greenstuff. Which of these are best reccommended? I basically need something fairly cheap, but reliable.
I'm also slightly confused as I've been told a '91 turbo engine will fit into a '92 car. However they have difference clutch sizes, do i need the 215mm clutch that fits the engine, or the 200mm clutch that's designed for the car? Im confused!

Just to add to the confusion, i'm sure i've picked up somewhere that you can also buy R5 clutches to fit the earlier turbo's ... so perhaps there's more choice there?
Current:

That would make sense, I hadn't thought of that, but surely with the R5's being lighter, they won't take the torque involved in moving a heavier car as well?

91 engine would have a 200mm clutch / flywheel. 92 would have (probably) the 215mm clutch / flywheel.
You need to match flywheel to ecu. Red does either, blue for late flywheel, others are for early flywheel.
Best 215mm clutch = valeo (volvo) - with the possibility of a renault (grippier) plate for 225+ bhp
Theres loads of uprated 200mm clutches available for 'sorted' R5s.
Basically, get an engine, then worry about this business.
I have a late (215mm) flywheel and blue ECU if you were set on the bigger size.
I also have a brand new 215mm volvo clutch...but thats waiting to go in my car

I'm not really set on any flywheel/clutch at the moment, just want to make sure it'll work. An uprated R5 one may be a good idea as I doubt with my lack of experience that i'll manage anything more than 200 horses!

I believed R5 boys using the stock Volvo turbo clutch as an upgrade. Perhaps the clutch of Renault 1.9DCI with 200NM TQ will fit (X40, Megane, Laguna)
Dont you swap the gearbox from the Turbo? I would think that's easier, but dont forget to swap the dashboard (infocentre) from the turbo. There might be differences in these too.

Probably easier to look for uprated R5 Clutches?
Just a quick search shows the same part number on the 91 480 as an R5 Turbo on black diamond. No idea if they're any good, just a quick cross reference...

i bought one of these from here http://www.partsforvolvosonline.com/pro ... ts_id=3305 for my 92 turbo. the problem is that i have not yet changed mine so i dont really know if it will fit.
However with the correspondant volvo part number they give, according to the volvo parts book it is the correct one for turbo 480's from chassis no. 567600 and on .
Hope it helps

Just wanting to check that this clutch will definately fit a '91 turbo engine going into a '92 car. The website looks dodgey as hell, designed more for boy racers and their nova's than for decent modifications but it's the cheapest i've found!
