Front disc brakes rattle

Post by Tripper » Wed Feb 14, 2007 4:30 am

Have determined the bloody annoying metalic sounding rattle from both front
discs is that the clip things holding the pads have corroded and broken. Everytime I drive over anything a bit bumpy, sounds like there's baked bean cans under there with several coins getting a good old shaking. Can you advise what the parts are that need replacing?
It sailed through the LTSA warrant like that, so not a safety issue.
Thank you.

Are you talking about the anti vibration spring clip thing?

You can buy them separatly in halfords I think. Sometimes they come with new pads. May as well change your pads too i guess!

Thanks, Halfords is a bit far away for me.
But could you enquire from them what the price is and post back on here?
Cheers.

Yes. It's the springs that are rusted and have lost tension. Even if someone sent me a pair, they look impossible to fit. Looks like I have to buy a new caliper set for both wheels, as springs are supplied already fitted. Any suggestions? Also have a rusted right rear brake disc so need a pair of replacements. Anyone wrecking who has rear discs with reasonable wear life left? Tough down here as all I get asking for 480 bits is either a blank look or much rubbing of hands anticipating a mug and his money, easily parted.
Cheers from Kiwiland.

Thanks Mart. If not too much trouble, yes, get the price from Volvo and I'll compare with NZ dealer price. Didn't realise Matbat lived in my area. Have PM'd a "Hello."

Hi Martin, would appreciate those Volvo prices. While you're about it, could you ask the price for a front number plate holder please? The plastic thing that sits out from the bumper. Some fu!#wit with a towbar has backed into mine.
Cheers from NZ.
