rear brakes again! New calipers?

Post by john480 » Thu Feb 15, 2007 8:28 am

Hi, ive just been given a 480 that needs a bit of work.

When i got the car the back pads where down to the metal on one side, and it looked like that caliper was sticking. Also the handbrake didnt work well.

After reading up on here how to change the pads, i had a shot but couldnt get the piston to retract on the "down to the metal" passenger side, no mater how many times i turned the adjuster.

I also had a go at adjusting the good side, and although i seem to have backed the piston off slightly, i then couldnt get it to move in or out!

So how many turns of the adjuster should move the piston all the way back?

I think im going to have to try get some used calipers but i want to make sure they are ok first!

Thanks in advance

John

The rear calipers are so shit that we've run out of spares and I had to buy a NEW one for the MOT....
They stick, the adjusters break, and sometimes brake fluid leaks out of the adjuster hole....

It doesn't take much to wind them in and out when they work.

My calibers ended its job and had the same "no-retraction" problem. Solution to this was what the postman delivered to my house.
New pads, calibers and disks :)
