Side exit exhaust!
After seeing several R5 GTT with side exit exhausts. I thought I will have some of that action too!
I am going to cut the exhaust where the pipe comes closest to the sill, it is an L-shape so the pipe will sit just in front of the passenger rear wheel. I have seen a few cars running bike cans, and after an hours hunting at a local bike breakers unearthed an EXUP can which has few baffles and seems quite free flowing for a bargain £25.......
Its 2" bore so should mate up with the original system quite well

i would have thought that as long as it doesn't protrude far enough it should be ok? i know there's a mini which is road legal and has a side exit exhaust.

i *think* that theyre ok, as long as they exit INTO the road....ie, not on the passenger side, pump fumes into pedestrian paths.....i do remember reading his when i had a beetle with the boom tube on the back......and i got pulled once and told to turn it round.....so maybe its true?
if youre exiting it near the rear wheels, think about making an end piece fo it that curves out, otherwise you'll be pumping hot gas straight at soft rubber!

Robin... this is gonna be a big project, I hope you take pics mate! How's the air filter doing? Are you getting improved performance after your bonnet mod?

The 480 is going to be an on going project, I wish I had the time and space to take on a restoration project like Volviz but I dont! Respect to the guy he is doing great work. Due to work and bad weather painting has come to a stop for now, gunna take some time off work to paint it soon! I will take loads of pics promise.
As for the bonnet vent worked a treat car feels a lot better! I want to relocate the battery to the boot, once I have done that I will make an enclosure for the filter so it is shielded from any other heat!
The exhaust, is a trial run. I was going to build a 2.5" side exit system out of stainless steel with a magnex bike style can out the side. So before I sink money and time into that I am going to do a quick effort using some of the original 2" system and a 2" bore bike can to see if I can live with it.
After I have finnished the body I am going to turn my attentions to the mechanical side of things. Replacing all the engine sensors is top of the agenda, the engine has done 95k now and is still strong so it just a case of getting the best out of it. After that I would like to get a bit more power possibly a T25, water injection, bigger intercooler!
Pipe dreams

Aww, does all this mean that my 480 won't be the ONLY one to have a SS side exit?

side exhaust
Maybe I am wrong, but engines N/A engines need backpressure to run oke. If you fit a motorcycle exhaust to your turbo, do not forget to empty it,because a turbo engine doesn't need pressure.
