Rear Brake Discs - Hubs or No Hubs?

Post by Ben Harris » Mon Nov 21, 2005 7:30 pm

As I couldn't find any decisive answer to this when I searched the forum, a trip in the tardis provided the answer so I thought I'd post it here in case it can help others when they come to replace their rear discs:
TARDIS wrote:Rear disc brakes
With effect from model year 1989, the brake disc is attached to the wheel hub. Up to model year 1989, the brake disc was integral with the wheel hub.
So....
- Pre '89 = Discs with integrated hub
- Post '89 = Discs without hub.

Hi Ben
in actual fact the discs with no hub was a VOLVO factory modification.
Due to the no warranty claims !
VOLVO did a modification over to the disc with seperate hub i may even still have a copy of the part no's lurking in the shed.

Even the 440 & 460 had the Mod.

Yep but for the money(and postage) its £24. It's only about £18 for the pair on buypartsby.co.uk and a fiver for postage! Quick delivery too(next day service). Just bought my brakes from them.

Holy smokes they are cheap - £30inc carriage for a pair of non-hub solid discs for mine.

Volvo quoting £46.53 and even local disc manafacturers (Brake Engineering, Wrexham) quoting £35.65 and that's excluding postage.

Nice one Rob, just ordered them, if only they did handbrake cables too!

Mine were 30quid for vented. Kashmir Motor center in Burnley...many prices are 1/3 - 1/2 of euro/GSF price.

Parts are quality too, and they'r open until 7pm, -and will get anything within an hour if they don't stock it. (this has so far never happened)

Only any use if you live there though of course...

my 480 is '92 and i just ordered the rear discs with hub as i did not know which exactly. now i saw this thread and im a bit nervous.

So the question is: will the discs with hub still fit ? or i have to change them to ones without hub ?

You will have to get hubless discs, unless you can machine the hub off the discs you've ordered.
