Some things just can't be placed elsewhere. Have you been speeding and got fined? Or spotted a nice new Volvo on the web somewhere? All non-480 messages can be posted in this part of the board.

Top Gear

Post by stu chacks » Mon Dec 05, 2005 7:30 pm

Anyone see Top Gear lastnight - was a real good one - loved the Italian Supercar for under £10k challenge, had me in stitches as soon as the James turned up on the back of an AA truck.
Clarkson: "You were supposed to buy a mid-engine sports car not a bloody great yellow lorry"

Made me think twice about the Esprit idea!

A good program indeed - a new fastest 'star in the reasonably priced car' (Ellen McArthur of all people!) and a new fastest car round the track (Zonda F)
reckon the Veyron will beat it on next weeks program?

:D

Definately. The Veyron is just mental.
I enjoyed the supercar test... Can't believe the loss of horsepower the cars had. The other thing that amazed me was the Astra Diesel beating them all around the track!

Excellent show indeed :D Glad that I've got BBC on the cable here!

Actually quite amazing to see how many horses escaped, I mean, a Diesel, come one

On the other hand, they should have also gotten a Diesel from the era those supercars were born

The only diesels I remember from the 70's were Landrovers, Peugot estate's and tractors!

Saying that, petrol was a bit cheaper at the time.

In 1974 you could buy a gallon for 75p with tax at 50%
Today it's £3.90 with tax at 69.66% (don't want to upset the public by them thinking it's 70% obvioulsy).

And if you think that's bad, you should see the % diesel has risen since it became popular.

Goverments, won't promote any energy efficiency polices as to happy taxing us on fossil fuels to keep them in clover. Love the way Blair got the Trade and Industry Secretary to decide the future energy policy last week, who needs an Enviromental department huh? Nice one Tony.

I dont think the Veryon will set a laptime, because my guess is that they will be using it for a feature like the car vs boat/ plane (DB9 to monaco, SLR to Sweden or somewhere near) thing

Bugatti Veyron vs plane
We love a good pan-European car versus public transport challenge on Top Gear. So far we've pitted an Aston DB9 against the fast train to Monte Carlo (victory: Clarkson, Team Car).

We've run a Ferrari 612 Scaglietti against a jet aircraft to Verbier (victory: Clarkson, Team Car). And we put a Mercedes SLR McLaren against a boat to Oslo (victory: Clarks... etc, etc).

Now comes our greatest race ever. The route is from the northern Italian town of Alba to the southern British town of London.

Jeremy takes the incredible (and incredibly delayed) 987bhp Bugatti Veyron, while Richard and James are once again going by air. But this time there's a twist, because your pilot for this TG Airlines flight is Captain May of the King's Own Still Having Flying Lessons Corps.

Clarkson will be punched straight through Europe by the mighty fist of the world's most powerful car. The other two will be taking a not quite as-the-crow-flies route because James can't fly over the Alps. Apparently he hasn't done that bit of the course yet.

Nonetheless, Clarkson could be in trouble this time, unless, of course, James flies as slowly as he drives.
