Attention Photobucket users

We all know GlasgowJim lost all his photo's recently when Photobucket removed his account without warning.

Well, the same thing has happened to another user (on a different forum). No warning, removed a huge chunk of his photo's as apparently "exceeded his limit". He could pay to increase his storage, but on principle, refused.

So, if you're a photobucket user, make sure you've got a backup of your photo's; You can download each album as a zip file by using the download album link.

I'll be investigating a few other options in the coming week.

Been getting fed up with PhotoBucket for a while its slow, covered with ads and very unreliable and I currently only have about 25 pictures linked so not too much of an effort to move them.

I tried OneDrive but this seems more of an access your files from anywhere type of program. If you edit or delete the file on your computer it is edited/deleted on OneDrive so not something to be used for years by others maybe long after you have said goodbye to your 480. :cryhard:

Google Photos looks a better option no ads, quick to start and upload but no idea at the moment how reliable it is. It currently says unlimited storage provided your individual files are below a certain size, thats how I read it and how long it will last is anyone’s guess. The linking text is very long and took me a while to find though.

Only had a very quick look so could be wrong and I'm sure others will have more experience on these and other programs.

Totaly agree with Photobucket moans - I despise the site. Some of the ads are bordline malware. The only good thing its got going for it is the easy of getting the Hyperlink for easy pasting into forum.

Sites I'm investigating are:

Google Photo's
FlickR
Imgur

Google photo's looks like a potential winner, as I already use Google for mail, so it's one less account to set up. Just need to find time to check out whether it supports simple editing (typically removing reg plates!) and how easy to get a sharing link, or make albums private.

With regard Google Photos I have not tried editing, linking is not obvious but once you know its straight forward, if as stated before very long text, and as far as I can see only gives access to that individual image. I have used it here, notice it now says edited.

Uploading multiple files is also easy.

Glad its not just me finding Photobucket annoyingly slow and advert ridden.

I only have a few photos on there used to link to two forums I belong to, this being one of them. Nothing would be lost irretrievably if they went, but finding an alternative would make life less painful :D !
