Is that the sexiest crank you've ever laid eyes on or what? :)

It's the new Ford racing NASCAR V8 crank, only about £15,000 a pop :shock: :shock:

I had the unfortunate job of attempting to tap a hole in the end of it for oil pressure measurement.... not something you want to break a tap in! And believe me, after heat treatment, tap breakage is a very real possibility.....

Just had to share this one, I'm sure many of you will be drooling over this, I know I was! Now if only you could get one of these to fit a B18FT :D

Were you successful though? I'd have thought tapping the block for an oil feed would have been much simpler!

I thought the same but maybe need oil pressure AT crankshaft? :?

Yeah, Alan's right, we needed to measure oil pressure right at the no.5 journal inside the shaft, hence a pressure sensor in the shaft with wiring running via the oil drillings and out to high speed slip rings to get the signal out.

And, yes, I was successful but it was a hairy few mins! It drilled fine with a solid carbide drill on the bridgeport but the tap didn't like it! Lots of cutting oil and patience required, just easing her through. Of course you can drill out a broken HSS tap with a carbide slot drill but this is not a nice thing to have to do, have had to do it on one or two heads when the tap for the cylinder pressure transducers has decided it wants to get stuck!
