hi from a previous 480 turbo owner :)

Some things just can't be placed elsewhere. Have you been speeding and got fined? Or spotted a nice new Volvo on the web somewhere? All non-480 messages can be posted in this part of the board.

hi guys !

cracking forum you have here and hoping to become an accepted member :)

I owned a nice white, manual 480 turbo 11 years back and absolutely loved everything about it !!
infact ! I've never stopped thinking about it !

I'm currently into saabs in a big way and have 3, all at the 300bhp mark.

but following on from a Volvo thread on uksaabs I have decided I now need a 480 turbo back in my life :D

any tips or advice on how to aquire a good example would greatly be appreciated.
Thankyou all, lee.

Sorry.....hi!

Love the classic Saabs :) what did you do to get to 300 hp?

I've tried a few different cars but always seem to go back to a 480 turbo as my favourite. My new S70 is a very close second however very nice for long drives

hi fella !

my 9000 aero has quite a few mods ...
3" down pipe with 100 cell cat.
k&n induction kit,
2.5" Abbott racing exhaust cat back with 4" Abbott racing tail pipe.
custom remap by Frederick at maptun
jam saab quick shift gear change
and Thats about it on the power side of things ... currently maxed out the td04 15t which is well known to hit 300hp/440nm of torque on the 2.3 engine.

there's not much I don't know about saabs now and turbos .... its quite an obsession LOL !

I'm definitely interested in buying the right 480 turbo though and adding it to my growing collection :)

have many people tuned the 480 turbo ?
what bhp/torque can the engine safely take in standard form ?

cheers, lee.

The turbo will easily go to ~200HP with an ecu mod: search the forum for ''richmod'' and/or posts from robou who made a similar mod more recently. The engine/gearbox etc was originally designed with such power in mind (tuned by porsche supposedly) then Volvo decided that 180-200bhp would be too dangerous.

For a good one keep an eye out in the usual places: here, VOC, ebay, car&classic, maybe autotrader. Depends what you want to wait for. My opinion is that alot of sellers have been asking too much for 480s in the last few months.

...cos they are getting a little rarer! Still plenty about though.

There was a nice white one about somewhere that the guy was reluctant to lower the price on. Advertised on here, VOC forum and Car & Classics website. An auto though, some people don't like that.

Oh I was thinking of the older Saabs. No matter still good motors! Do the S70s have the same engine? Mine has the 16T turbo but would take some effort to get past those numbers I think :)

cheers fellas :)

I'd really like one again. just finding a good looked after example that doesn't require a day of driving to fetch ;)

I'm in staffs so if anyone here's of one local to me plz drop me a pm so I can have a butchers :)

back to my saabs 300hp is considered a mild tune tbh on uksaabs ... many are running north of 400hp and tbh its very easily achived as the standard b234 can take 500hp before any internals need changing !

also if your half decent with a laptop, you can remap your own car for free using t5 or t7 suite which is freeware :D

sounds good Lee, I'm really interested in trying out adjustable maps. I'm just starting to get the hang of code reading via laptop and hope to move on to this. There was a fella on here (RPruen) who, legend tells, was able to do this on his twincharged 480.

what a wonderful world we live in! Good luck with the purchasing....Paris Blue is THE colour to be seen in this summer :):)
