Want to buy a 480

Some things just can't be placed elsewhere. Have you been speeding and got fined? Or spotted a nice new Volvo on the web somewhere? All non-480 messages can be posted in this part of the board.

Want to buy a 480

Post by Grimarr » Sat Nov 03, 2012 4:38 pm

Hello!
I want to buy a Volvo 480. (1988, 104 engine, 304 colour)
But in our country it's very difficult. I found a wonderful auto. But it's "not in the go". it stood about 5 years in the garage and about 1 - in the open air. there are a lot of dirt and rust (seems no holes). I think repaint it. but I was more worried by roof. maybe the car was upside down and then pepaired. there is peeling paint on the roof, plaster and rust. in the cabin a little water (backdoor is not original). It seems that the roof was made by foil (easy to push your finger) is this normal? Now I can't give you pictures, but I can show the ad. Advise whether to engage..? :(

Dobre ootra!

Not many 480s in Russia! I think parts would be difficult to find for repairs.....odachi...but of course this forum could help

The roof does not sound in good condition. Maybe a bad repair or lots of corrosion? A 480 convertible never made it to mass production!

:D Dobroe! Доброе!

Yep. roof... can you tell me, metal on the roof realy so thin and soft, or it should be solid like on the hood?

Saint petersburg is "not so far" for russians road) but this ad was posted 21-10-2009 22:38.
For volvorussiaclub thanks, i'll contact with it

I suppose the car is sold by now then!! I couldn't find any more even on Drom.ru

The roof should not be soft.....it is 'softer' than the hood (bonnet in English) but should not be like foil. The shape of the hood and reinforcement underneath gives it more stiffness than the roof.

Why not clean some of the dirt off and see what is under there? Or look under the headlining. I've never seen a 480 with heavy corrosion on the roof, the bodies are usually good apart from wheel arches. It depends what's happened to it though!

It would be great if you could post some photos.....can anybody help with this? I have no idea how to post images :tomato:

Hey I just worked out how to post photos.....

Go to Photobucket (other image hosting sites are available :D ),
Upload your photos,
Get the 'direct link' for the photo,
Click on the Img button above,
Paste your link without changing the position of the cursor,
and post...

Easy now I know how!

Sorry for my English.. hood.. bonnet..))
You understood me right. it's more softer than the .... bonnet. and softer than the wing (fender?) how I told before, probably this car was in a car crash.. and upside down. I have seen, that the driver's door (L.H. auto) have differents in colour. you can find the advert on

I got the link working.....quote: "requires serious investment to get one of the beautiful cars of all time" :D pravda

Just about anything can be fixed its just a question of how much time you have!!

It doesn't look too bad on the photos, from the outside anyway, although yes maybe a hard life. Can't see any obvious evidence of damage....usually the only reason to hide damage is to make some money, and we are not talking huge amounts here so unilkey that there will major faults disguised. The glass boot (baggagenik) lid looks not original to the car but is a Volvo item I think

If you know any mechanics/car experts take one along to the car dealers with you, its always good to get a second opinion and I am just looking at some photos from some distance away! Check the spaces between the panels/wings/doors/fenders (bumpers)/etc!!

I have much time) but have not warm garage.. "the winter is cold.." (about minus 20-40 Celsius)
More photos I'll take tomorrow, or the day after tomorrow.
P.s. yes, "the glass boot" is not original. it's plaxiglas. and! probably it's the reason why inside "coсkpit" has some water. :(

No, no. It's normal for Russia. The first photo was created earlier. there is "transit" registration plate. (for selling, i think). the last photo shows the actual state for today.
Thanks, comerades) I'll try to contact.
