Several sources on the net report that Volvo has stopped production of the C30.

I hope there'll be something...P1800, 480, C30....

My opinion...cars are getting bigger and so made to look smaller!! I thought a V70 was a big car, but when you compare it say a Mini it doesn't appear to be. You can fit more stuff inside though :D

That said C30's had the same (damn good) chassis from a Ford Focus so they were never really small.

I think its a shame thats its being discontinued quite young in its lifecycle (for a Volvo anyway) I really enjoy driving my C30 and enjoy the fact that like the 480 its different enough to stand out from the run of the mill Golfs etc.

I guess it's just not needed any more now the V40 is out.
Will they make a replacement in 10yrs or so? I very much doubt it :(

Continuing my theme of larger cars, at the main dealers the other day....

Image

Of course they must be compensating for something

Admittedly the cars shown are an XC60 and a V60 (I think) so not really comparable.....but just though I would take the pic to show how things of changed i.e. for the worse in my opinion....most new cars are so boooring now

Dimensions for comparison.....length x width x height in metres....

480: 4.26 x 1.71 x 1.32

C30: 4.27 x 1.78 x 1.45

V40: 4.37 x 1.78 x 1.42

So although a bit on the larger size, the 480 lives on....check out the pics....

I like the T5 version....just need to wait 10 yrs so I can afford it

I must confess to disliking many modern cars particularly the trend towards what I call 'Monster Trucks'. I've been cut up more times than I care to remember by 4x4 style cars and I'm convinced it's because they're so high up that they don't see me. I've taken to making use of the 480's many lights to make sure I'm visible.
A good example are the new mini's. A mini's a small car right? There's a clue in the name if you look. Yet the latest one's have been 'monster trucked' from what I see. Styling intended to make them look more like 4x4's from I can tell. Even going as far as a barn door style boot. It's all a little gauche for my taste.

Shame about the C30 though I do quite like those!

Rant over!

Well, since I starting getting nerdy with the dimensions, may as well continue...

V70 (mark 1 i.e. mine): 4.72 x 1.76 x 1.45
Mini One: 3.72 x 1.91 x 1.41 (Countryman even bigger  )

Yeah a metre shorter than a V70, but nothing mini about the width and height!!!

I agree the 480 is lacking a little in road presence....the V70 is a little better as when one of these appears in your rear view mirror, I think some people remember the police using them and tend to edge out of the way.....

Something to add to your rant - if they can't see a 480, how do these drivers with big 4x4's see kids/animals behind their cars when reversing?? :badmood:

Considering that they are mostly used outside of schools and in supermarket car parks too! A stereotypical generalization there but hey there's more where that came from

(I have to admit I used to have a Rangie for greenlaning :tomato: but got rid of it  when I realised it was being used more for posing than offroading)
