ICE

Some things just can't be placed elsewhere. Have you been speeding and got fined? Or spotted a nice new Volvo on the web somewhere? All non-480 messages can be posted in this part of the board.

hey mate soz didn't notice that you'd posted in reply to jamo's link to my page with pics. Didn't even know that he'd done that either lol. Yea course its fine that you can have pics, but I got much better ones than that now, that was unfinished, and now I've got better pics to hand, so either add me to ya msn list @ s.williams43@ntlworld.com, or I'll send them to jamo and he can send them to you, at the mo my e-mail isn't working so I can't send them to you, but if its easier I'll set up a post in that page where I have them at the mo of a nice set of complete pics with details of install, and you can throw it on your site then. Also would it ve ok if I used the pics in your site to analyse them for the research towards my build, its all for a tech project you see

Don't ask (I inherited it last week and it is IMMACULATE, almost like new and 1 owner 54k etc...and all options) but can I mount my beloved 6x9 Kappas into the rear 'shelf' on an 89 XR3i Cabrio? As usual I'm not out to thump the 'hood, just get some quality on a budget. Ideas??
And yes, I know it aint a 480.....
"Like the first monkeys blasted into space, sacrificing themselves for the good of mankind"

Spacymonkey.

In the rear of the XR£ cabs there are some builds for the factory speakers. Alot of people I know cut this and fit them in there. I would have to go and have a look at my mates cabs to see if you could mod the rear shelf to fit them on.

Hope this helps.

I think i've been fortunate to be educated by some top ICE bods who work in the trade. (Bass Junkies, Bass Bin, Midland Car Audio centre).

Now i'm trying to get my head round the setup your trying to achieve.

2 8 inch subs will not be as good as One good 12" Sub (Want proof, hear my car, want double proof, hear Lee's twin 12 or Rhys Elvins twin 12").
Put a 12" in a 1.2 cubic sealed box and you are onto a winner.

6x9 are good rear speakers as they are fill alot of air space without specific definition in the ranges.

In the front your high/treble will be coming from your feet (every wonder why even volvo made the fronts mid / tweeter)
so 6x9 wont sound very good as theres not enough air space behind the door panels for them to work very effectively plus resonance will be high so sound deadening will be a must behind the doors

Now if i was you, since your going to do some fabrication work any ways, i would have gone for 6 1/2 inch components with a 5" full range or another componenet in the fronts.

Stand 5" for rear fill

two seperate amps, one to drive mid / highs and one for bass
One amp for allis not very effectice especiallty when running subs off them.
As the amp will get stressed amplifing the bass frequencies generating alot of heat and effect the sound quality to mids / highs.

But this is in hindsight.

I will wait to see you setup with great interest! <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D">

Lee, thanks for that! There are some Pioneers in there, but nowt special. I wonder if there is some kind of 'sealing pod' (can't describe very well what I mean) to go behind the speaker to keep rain out and to help the sound??
I see builds for the doors available for 6.5 inchers and I will do this too. The standard stuff is so dire it's painfull...

And yes, I know someone will shoot me soon for mentioning anything other than a 480!! Today I sat in a jam for 2 feckin hours to get from Paddington to White City in 30 degree temps. This would have been certain death in the Wedgey, but was bliss in the Pooffy Cabrio.
"Like the first monkeys blasted into space, sacrificing themselves for the good of mankind"

Ouch, I know what that's like. I was 17 and layed out for 2 weeks not allowed to move except going to the dunny. The good news is that once you have weakened your back it never gets better, and can go again at any time!
Pass on my regards, then tell him to get off his lazy arse and check out the Escort, innit.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... rassed.gif ALT=":o">
"Like the first monkeys blasted into space, sacrificing themselves for the good of mankind"
