Where i went (carwise) after my beloved 480..

Some things just can't be placed elsewhere. Have you been speeding and got fined? Or spotted a nice new Volvo on the web somewhere? All non-480 messages can be posted in this part of the board.

I had an S40 diesel too.

It was shit.

We'vestill got the big Audi, averaging about 19mpg.
At the moment I am having to do 700 miles per week in a Kia Ceed diesel due to some guy in a passat not checking his mirrors properly (or at all, not sure) and gnarlsing my Octavia right up.

Well I went to a 406 TD which was very unreliable but not a bad car. Then i got the Saab 9000 which was great but was starting to feel a little antiquated. Got a Rover 420 for a dirt cheap hack which I drove for 6 months and sold on for a £200 profit. Then i got given an old MK3 Astra diesel which I'm finally getting round to selling as...At the beginning of january, I bought a Saab 9-5 2.3 Turbo! And it's lovely...drinks though!

Aye but it's having the money up front to do the conversion too. I'll have to see if the bank manager will be nice to me ;)

V8 engined Audi sold  but for more than I paid for it :D

R Plate 2.0 V40 Auto for my wife, diesel company car for me (if it ever comes back at this rate)

Have to wait a couple of years before we can sensibly insure a serious car again....

So ur rates get high for someone else doing a "mistake" (a bit understated for a crash)?

Or why cant u insure a decent car the next years?

Yes, that's right, an accident that was someone elses fault, will put your own insurance up. Obviously the higher insurance grouping of the car, proportionally the increase will be higher. If I was still in a 480, or something "average" it wouldn't be half as crippling.
I've not even bothered to be insured on my wifes volvo as putting me on that increased it from 420 to over 600 quid! I don't need to ever drive it as If we go out together we take the co. car as everything is paid for.

Shit, isn't it.

In fact there are 2 reasons:
main one being me having the no-fault claim.
It put the insurance up on the group 20 insurance Audi from 500 to about 900 quid, that's with 8 years protected NCB.
Second one, My wife was very, very ill after Emily was born, (I had to take 3 months compassionate leave from work) and now has a one-year DVLA restricted licence. That doesn't help much either, but surprisingly does not make half as much difference as someone sideswiping me! (some companies didn't load at all, in fact, just said you had to comply with the restriction or they'd bend you over)

With my wife no longer working, I cannot justify paying that much. The most I EVER paid for insurance was £850 on a 1.6 440 when I was 18 in 2000.

My T4 is up for sale if anyone fancies it, i love it but ive found a yellow one for sale and i love that even more! I have a Transit that my work gave me, its practical, reliable and free and i do about 20k a year in it so i need something fun for the weekend :bla:
