The fuel pipes and expandsion tank are internal in the boot crasy with 5 different pipes running up and down plus one oneway valve. If that is not insane then nothing is!!!!!
On top of that the rain water drain for the heating is only inches away from the mechanical fuel pump. This car is a design nightmare. You drive away and when you open the drivers side window the petrol fumes increase this is insane had a 340 before and that had no fumes. Even had breifly a du 360 and that had no petrol smells either.
have now replaced 4 degraded petrol pipes and swithering about replacing more . I have significantly reduced the smell to almost zero when static but have still to road test. If the smell keeps coming inside from the front end then it is the carb which is the problem and the moving airflow is sucking fumes into car . If this is the case the car can go , It was bought as a reliable daily driver/shed not to become he new challenge on 4 whels thats what the 480 s are
Still in he spare hour I had I replaced the 2 rear windows and the rear hatch with tinted windows in sons GT .
i remember the kiosk mans mouth dropping when i dashed across the yard to the extinguishers.quickly got a mate to come and tow it away before the block was cordoned off.
