Samsung U600

Some things just can't be placed elsewhere. Have you been speeding and got fined? Or spotted a nice new Volvo on the web somewhere? All non-480 messages can be posted in this part of the board.

Samsung U600

Post by martinholmesuk » Mon Jan 05, 2009 12:45 pm

Hi,

Anyone have one of these? Thinking of buying one for my dad but the phone has touch sensitive buttons.

What are these like in operation? Would they be no good for someone like my dad who is 58 and has big man fingers lol.

In short i'm looking for a phone which is pay as you go on virgin mobile or unlocked and has a larger screen, big buttons and easy to use and no bloody touch screen or windows OS. The main problem is in the shops the phones do not work so I can't test them.

Cheers

Martin....

I had a U600 for 18 months, i've now recently got an LG Renoir.

The U600 is the worst phone i've ever had. My 4 year old E700 takes better pictures. The touch buttons are laggy and you accidentally call people all the time.

Eventually the screen stopped working.

Battery life was also poor.

Haven't had one myself, but one of my collegues has one and the 4 and 7 button just stopped working on it. Apparently, this is a "feature" on these phones which shows itself quite often. No idea why, I have a D900 myself and it's been a brilliant phone all 3 years I've had it so far.

D900 is a good phone. I bought the u600 off the back of it.....but Samsung made too many compromises squeezing down the thickness to the u600.

I took mine apart when the screen went to make sure it wasn't just something fixable. - the ribbon cable had worn through, just through use. YOu basically have a finite number of times you can open and close it before that would happen to any u600.

Also the 3.0m camera of the D900 was far superior to the 3.2m camera of the u600.

So far as i could tell, the only feature that was improved was the video capture.

It also has a criminally slow processor, loading up a video to playback taking approaching 30 seconds, and often causing a freeze.

Then theres the inability to edit words in text messages, and the generally wobbly feel of the slide mechanism, the way the screen's tint scratches.... I could go on.

I have a D900! The camera is ACE for what it is! I was quite surprised with the quality, and my photo for the calendar was done on the phone!

I was considering upgrading to the U...and my friend who had done just that said dont bother, apart from the odd fun touchy bits, its no better and the camera sucks! So my D900 is here to stay! ;)

Hope that helps! ;)

Thanks everyone for the comments! It stopped me buying a few models. I ended up with a motorola-razr2-v8

Review at http://www.amaltas.org/category/reviews ... razr-2-v8/

in short I got it because he only wants to make calls and send maybe 1 txt a year and the screen is larger and buttons are big. My mate also said his had one and it was good.

My dad is pleased.
