It's since been changed! The cheeky fuckers!

Put me right off downloading with wording as it was.

Also in gMail, buried somewhere in the 3rd link in the terms of:-
Uses
Google maintains and processes your Gmail account and its contents to provide the Gmail service to you and to improve our services. The Gmail service includes relevant advertising and related links based on the IP address, content of messages and other information related to your use of Gmail.
Google's computers process the information in your messages for various purposes, including formatting and displaying the information to you, delivering advertisements and related links, preventing unsolicited bulk email (spam), backing up your messages, and other purposes relating to offering you Gmail.
Google may send you information related to your Gmail account or other Google services.

Yep, they scan your emails for keywords and then fire adverts at you. Clever huh... I wonder what else they do when scanning your email. :|

The days that Google was fresh & funny are long gone.
They act now worse than their worst enemy couple of years ago.

Big Google... hah ! :wife:

I've tried chrome, it's "nice" but i don't know whether I could migrate from firefox fully.

I must admit the usability of their products is amazing, gmail, sketchup are very good tools and quite sophisticated too.
However I too am a little concerned with how big they are getting and all the data they are storing about each of us. It's worrying but someone would be storing the data no matter where i was, so I just take my chances :)

Fire Fox is a great choice. I use Avant and it's a classy browser but I think IceWeasel is worth a look :)

Yep, I use Mozilla Firefox too. No spam or other irritating things, just pure internet without "the things" :D

Try to use all the "Apple things and stuff" , but in the heart of my laptop its still a Windows.. but then with less trouble

[Off topic in the Off topic] Who uses Windows Vista? And do you like it or not? With all the (we call it in Dutch kinder-ziektes, child-sickness?) problems from the beginning?

Vista = :sick:

The problem is now, I work in IT so I get everyone asking me how to do this and that, then they have a stunned look on their face because I tell them I don't have a clue because its shitty Vista. Give me an XP or Linux (Ubunto) box and I'm good but Vista?? Ahh I hate it! Its the worst thing since, well, ever!!

Chrome is fast. My browsing involves a lot of forward and backward going, and it loads so much faster then IE and FF.
So for now I use it side by side with FF.
A pro and disadvantage at the same time is that out of the box it will deal with most multimedia applications on the internet.
When Chrome will have plugins like FF has, eg flashblack, adblock, RIP, etc. then it may be near perfect.

Vista. Uhm yeah, some people buy it or get it with their new computer.
Deep underneath that Linux like dressed up Vista shell it's still much old school 2000/XP. I would still be using 2000 if it wasn't for the RDP functionality of XP. And that it boots faster.
That Vista Aero interface looks great though.

Vista is a very dodgy program... I got these quotes from Richard Stallman, who set up the "Free Software Foundation" and is the guy who probably deserves most credit for the popularity of all these Linux based operating systems you get today.

"What Microsoft do is have a signature and encryption key that corresponds to a second key stored in your computer. This enables Microsoft, and potentially any web sites that cooperate with Microsoft, the ultimate control over what the user can do on his own computer.

Vista also gives Microsoft additional powers; for instance, Microsoft can forcibly install upgrades, and it can order all machines running Vista to refuse to run a certain device driver. The main purpose of Vista's many restrictions is to make Digital Rights Management that users can't overcome."

I would say to anyone, avoid it like the plague. Get Ubuntu instead.

We have Vista Basic on our laptop - only because it came with it - and I really do not like it. It is hugely resource heavy and although the laptop is low spec, it really does take an age to do anything. I am thinking of 'downgrading' to XP if I can find someone to do it for me.

If DX10 was available for XP then there would be no need for Vista to exist as far as I'm concerned, Microsoft should have waited and released Windows 7 a little earlier.

You'll be hard pressed to get a new PC or Laptop that doesn't have Vista these days. Unless you want to pay £70 for an XP license. I run XP Pro and Ubuntu on all my gear.

Vista is also very resource hungry, you have to have atleast 2G RAM for it to be any good.

Most of my day to day stuff is still done on a CLI and scripting, my PABXs all run VXworks and if something needs to be done quickly then DOS is used.
