Some things just can't be placed elsewhere. Have you been speeding and got fined? Or spotted a nice new Volvo on the web somewhere? All non-480 messages can be posted in this part of the board.

Crack, Cocaine, lol....

No. It's about the show actually. Now, at the chance of sounding a miserable twat, i think i feel a little rant coming along...

Is it just me or is it starting to go down the pan a bit? Don't get me wrong, i've always quite enjoyed TG, but it seems like it's going a bit 'silly'. It's like a boy's and their toys show-but they have shit loads of money to spend. The Star in the reasonably priced car is wearing a little thin, but it's these stupid challenges. Across Africa, that was ok, the 24hr endurance in the diesel BMW was quite good, but not all the time.

I'm generally quite an easy going guy, i can take a joke, have a laugh etc-but these buy a car for £1000 things are getting crap. Buy an Alfa. Fine. James's was actually quite nice looking, good nic etc-first thing Richard done-smacked the door. Constantly trashing his cars and stuff. I know it's a laugh, but it just wears thin. Basically they get a grand and just trash the cars, and for some, it is a shame. Then what was the deal with the concours? What on earth did they do to their cars....and if i was at the concours i'd be quite offended. It just seems like 'cos they're famous, they can throw their weight around and do whatever. I'd put a years wages on the fact they'd probably have to seek permission before doing the whole concours thing, but it's just not funny.

And that was it, the whole show-apart from the little bit about the Bentley was it? I was clearing up in the kitchen, so i missed the first few minutes. It's a shame, because it used to be good, but it just seems like they don't give a shit anymore, and they think as it's TG, people will just watch. When they start having decent reviews concerning cars that most people can really afford, not stupid amounts of cash for a new Audi, or getting a hard-on about another BMW M3 or equivalent, then it might be more watchable. I like a bit of 'exotica', but it's also interesting to see stuff about cars i may have the opportunity to own, or even just see in real life!

I dunno, perhaps i'm just having a moment-like i say, i'm quite laid back and will watch anything, but TG just seems to have gone downhill imo, and it's a shame.

Thats put the cat amongst the pigeons! I had to just get that off my chest. My Dad stopped watching it ages ago, and can see my point-but he also wanted me to point out to the forum (quite irrelevant really) , that his '91 Turbo has just passed it's MOT, first time, for the 6th year running. But saying that, it did only do 1300 miles last year... Old people eh? He's just bragging 'cos he know's i want another 480 and i can't have one as doing some hard-core saving! Bugger!

Is it just me or can others see my point? :dunno:

Now breathe, and r...e...l...a...x

I agree with Joker its a good prgramme, if you want the old style then 5th gear is/or was the old Top Gear format, the Beeb sold it off knowing that this new version was coming along.

I agree the challenges are a bit daft, and i don't find the needless destruction all that funny, but i still find it very funny generally.

5th gear and that other one on digital cater for the traditional top gear type show. - And i don't watch them.

I view top gear as an entertaining, not informing show.

Star in a reasonably priced car is super dull. I pick my nose and scratch my balls during that segment.

Thats nice JT

It has been getting real daft as of late. The first challenges I thought were awesome-it was a new idea! But they kinda grabbed it and stretched in on...and on... and on and generally ruined the novelty.

But like JT said, I view it more as entertainment, and i love my 80s cars so there is rarely anything on there for me to learn and enjoy-so long as they keep rating the Jags it has my vote ;)

You can say that again! I would call myself a fan of TG as its one of the only programs i make a point of watching. Apparently there's this massive waiting list just to be in the studio and it's won some major television awards (BAFTA, multi-NTA and Emmy Award) and has an estimated 385 million viewers worldwide http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Top_Gear_(current_format) Doesn't mean to say your wrong tho Dan ...

ohh, glad i wasn't the only one ... that really annoyed me! How does a program for car lovers get away with intentionally and needlessly damaging perfectly good cars?

I wish it still did some information tho ... like "this is the alfa i chose, it's a 1993, done 90K, was £22k new, has 190bhp and cost me £600" ... thats like 20 seconds of the show and LOADS of info!?

Anyway, my only pet hate (apart from the intentional and needless damage to perfectly good cars) is the script! Sometimes is so staged it's embarassing! Why can't they just have three guys having a laugh talking about the thing they love?

obviously this bit is really dependent on who's the star ... James Blunt was super funny the other night, and i like Gavin & Stacey (thank goodness they didn't have stacey on tho!)

Little bit of debate, just what i like.

I'm glad somebody actually noticed the car damaging thing too-cheers Ross :D I think this is a good idea too:

I wish it still did some information tho ... like "this is the alfa i chose, it's a 1993, done 90K, was £22k new, has 190bhp and cost me £600" ... thats like 20 seconds of the show and LOADS of info!?

Agreed! I don't want the inside leg measurement of a new Corsa, just some backround, and indeed, a reason for buying the car ind of thing. It'd be interesting to have the previous owners of that particular vehicle on there too to see what they make of their ex-cars...i think i'd cry

I don't dislike Top Gear as a rule, i just think this weeks episode was particularly shit, and couldn't help but compare it to alot of recent episodes. At least JT, when you're scratching your nuts, you're replacing the manly driving thing with a manly past-time! Good choice!

I have to honestly say though, that if this weeks episode is basically the same thing, i won't be fussed about watching the week after...

Fingers crossed eh?!

Dan you wrote down just my thoughts. Slamming the door in the others car is a nice joke, once. Now we see it all the time it gets annoying.

The Star in a reasonably priced car is a good idea but it seem to come to the point where the well is drying and sub stars are entering the contest. Plus, I don't know most of them and have no clue what the introduction talk is about.

And the cars they come up with, they are so crap you really have to look hard I think to find a piece of junk like that. Top Gear presenters are supposed to have so much common sense they can come up with a nice car even for 1000 pounds, like James' Alfa.

Top Gear is an institute, I have to see it, have a sat plant for the best reception, I remember missing one episode in 2003 or was it 2004, was pissed about that for long long time.

But then they have to keep up their standards, invent new ideas, don't wear off old jokes, and cars. Not improving is going down...

The last episode of the series, only 4 or 5 shows seen this time? I thought they had more shows in former years. Well not the best of their series I am sorry to say.

The end.

I thought the same actually, 4 or 5 shows...but back in the Autumn so not too long to go.

I did think that they redeemed themselves a bit though. The GTR across Japan or Tokyo whichever was good (always loved the Skylines, and the GTR ). The following week was funny, but a bit boring with them just driving their motors through London, and it was disappointing that they only done a little review of the GTR round the track...i'm sure Jezza could have given us a little more info on the car before his neck packed in-i would have been more annoyed if they hadn't have the GTR on the week prior. Would have been interesting to see how different it performed on the track with it's ECU un-restricted or whatever...thats clever. But there you go!

Last nights one was really good. A bit more variety! JK was good, i like him anyway, that German 'Spudka' or whatever, quickest round the track, those Jap cars..., and the German challenge....especially when that Kif's arm fell off  It was a good episode, a bit more like it should be. Oh, and seeing the Stig beating the Germans in the Aston...very very cool Aston, but also being beaten up by Scouts, were all equally enjoyable

Fingers crossed for the next series!

I can see that German program on satellite (D-Max), frankly, it's rubbish. They try to clone the Top Gear challenges but they make me think of those cheap German pron movies. No where else you hear this stupid use of German.
