Hidden Number Plates

Some things just can't be placed elsewhere. Have you been speeding and got fined? Or spotted a nice new Volvo on the web somewhere? All non-480 messages can be posted in this part of the board.

Hidden Number Plates

Post by 2127 » Wed Sep 05, 2007 5:18 pm

Hi guys, sorry to bother you with this one, but couldn't find it with 'Search': why are number plates on pictures hidden or 'smudged'? Is it a legislation matter? There is a sticky with an addition to the charter on this one, but it doesn't explain why. Pictures always look a bit weird without them.

Because some of the 480 owners are secret agents for MVWTFFWD and Volvo are trying to hunt these poeple down.

There are certain 'legal issues' with having number plates on the forum, someone could claim that someone on here was involved in an accident with them and drove off or something like that because they recognise the number plate. Daniel was actually reluctant to make the Spotted forum at first when it was discussed a while ago but provided number were obscured he was happy to go ahead with it, hence the sticky post about not posting number plates.

Also, it could be easily possible for a bad person to come onto the forum to find identical/similar 480's to their own one, make copies of the number plate and drive through speed camera's or fill their car up in petrol stations without paying. Either way, it's up to you to prove it wasn't you!

better to be safe than sorry! :D

Thanks for the info!

Better cover your plates up every time you drive then...

In all seriousness, out of courtesy I wouldn't post somebody elses plate up, it would be rude. I have no qualms about my own however.
