new volvo C30 - parentage
Just saw pictures of the new C30 volvo looks like the offsrping of a corsa thats been humped buy a 480.
Noticably volvo just cant get over the fact that the saint drove the 1800!
What a waste of styling and design effort

That is the problem! It is probably a really good car but its ugly like so many recent cars.
I still find it ridiculous that no-one is allowed to build a car with a front like a 480 due to stupid regulations but people who drive large 4x4's routinely (and legally) have monstrous bullbars attatched!
Erm sorry OT there.
I am glad that Volvo have the C30. They have needed a smallish car in their range for some time since the end of the 400 series.
Perhaps there will be more to come, like Mercedes with the A and B class.

Anyway i have seen the new corsa and the C30, the corsa is a ugly shit car and looks like the new clio..
The C30, with the body kit added just simply looks amazing the front isnt like the S40/V50 and the backside just looks awsome and 'big'. Allong with the 18" rims and dual exaust its a amazing car.
I did excpet that the interior would be bigger then the 480, wich it is but only slightly. Still looks the deal tho.
I mean, i'd prefer this over a 1 series, A3, Astra, Golf anyday.
Robbed the image from another forum, thanks if ya read this
White 480 Turbo '91, full leather, white blinkers, daily driver.
I took it for a test drive. Lucked out, everyone was busy so they said "you've got an hour, so we'll see you back then" and let me go on my own.
The chassis I think is better/stiffer than our 480s' (as well it should be), but the steering is a fair bit less confidence inspiring. The whole package still has you cornering faster than the 480 though, just cuz like all new cars you don't notice quite as much how fast you're actually going. I was pootling along on a b-road and thought about speeding up a bit, getting bored, checked how boring a speed I was going and as it turned out, I was doing 80mph already .
I had trouble adjusting to the pedals though. They're set like steps on a staircase: clutch highest, brake middle and throttle lowest. Volvo-safe I guess, but me with my widdle short legs had trouble reaching the throttle Well, when I say trouble, I mean I found it difficult to regulate it at first, especially with the limited travel on it of about an inch. You're sitting up quite a bit higher as well, even on the lowest setting I could manage to get it to go. On the upside, the seats are imho very comfortable and there's no rattling in the cabin All around view is excellent as well and the nose feels shorter than the 480, although I don't think it actually is.
I like it, I'd have one if I had the money for it. The 2.0 diesel I drove is quite poky, but at (apparently) the same mileage as my 480, I could be driving the T5

Am I right is saying the C30 is basically a Ford Focus ST?

have you heared, Vovlo has started a develope of a serial diesel plugin hybrid, based on C30? that is a diesel engine as a charger for battery and generator when battery dries out, and only an electric motor coupled to wheels.
The concept will be shown on Michelin Chalange in Shanghai later this year.
