Who was THE 1980's group for you?

Some things just can't be placed elsewhere. Have you been speeding and got fined? Or spotted a nice new Volvo on the web somewhere? All non-480 messages can be posted in this part of the board.

Who was THE 1980's group for you?

Post by catgroom » Mon Jan 08, 2007 10:03 pm

Hello!

Well,Im gonna show my age again!Im sitting here listening to some stuff by Level 42,realising just how many years it has been since it was the first hearing.Looooaaaadddsss!

Anyway,I was into new romantic stuff more really like Human League and Japan,OMD,Kraftwerk,Gary Numan and lots of The Police.

And this era stuff creates a perfect soundtrack in an old 480 as this stuff wa s big when it was made.A nice experience that I reckon!

So I expect ghalf of ya were still the glint in the milkman's eye, cough, but for those who werent what were your big 80s bands then??

Coool, you know 'Japan'. I've got an album, which is great, nobody seems to have heard of them or remember them though!!

A few years back I was really into all the 80s Electric, New Wave and Synth pop. Got a few albums jammed packed with the stuff. I'm not old enough to remember it, but young enough to enjoy it!

The 480 is a great cruiser to some of these weird classics!

Bah...I'll get my dad to post here...he is old enough to think that the beatles were for youngsters and it was just a whole load of noise...

Feel better now Groomus ?

Anyway, no, I wasn't a twinkle in my mummy's eye, and only being 5 at the end of the 80's, I wasn't out clubbing and enjoying any form of music whatsoever. :D

Talking Heads mainly, along with Madness, Kraftwerk and a few others...

None of the above strictly 80's only, so do they still count?

Loads of two tone
Robert Palmer
Phil Collins
Queen
ELO

...or am I still in the seventies???

By the way groomus, I've just been given a copy of Level 42's Essential Collection. I was really pleased until I remembered how boring it became when listened to in bulk! Great when it was a single (small black vinyl thing with a hole in the middle for those who can't remember them) but when you try to listen to a whole album.........zzzzzzzz

Ahh, tame stuff. In the early 80's it was hardcore Punk for me, Discharge, GBH, Anti-Pasti, Vice Squad etc.

Dire Straits
Pearl Jam
Kate Bush
Tears for Fears
Simple Minds

I've started listening to metal and various "harder" types of music, but I still love them and lots of bands like them from the 80s.

I generally claim that the 80s were a musical wasteland so far as I am concerned - and, let's face it, there was loads of shit on TOTP in the Eighties.

But then I find myself listening to Blondie, The Pretenders, Madness, Dexy's, Squeeze, XTC, the Enid, Depeche Mode, Echo and the Bunnymen, Teardrop Explodes, This Mortal Coil and some dodgy rock bands...

I was never much of a Smiths fan at the time and took forever to catch on to Everything But the Girl - but then I was into some obscure stuff and anyway, half of the Seventies music took place in the early Eighties.

(I can remember the Eighties only too well - so was I there or not?)
Tonee: '93 Two Tone. High mileage but nice 'n' tidy.
Sheba: '91 ES Paris Special. Love that leather, baby. Scrapped and used as a spares car.
