Serious Car Jacking Warning

Some things just can't be placed elsewhere. Have you been speeding and got fined? Or spotted a nice new Volvo on the web somewhere? All non-480 messages can be posted in this part of the board.

Serious Car Jacking Warning

Post by Dan the 480 Man » Thu Dec 07, 2006 7:29 pm

I had this sent to me today by a work colleage-i don't know how true it is but i thought it was worth passing on...
ALL CAR OWNERS AND CAR DRIVERS PLEASE READ Warning!!!!

Be aware of this new car-jacking scheme.
You walk across the car park, unlock your car and get inside.
Then you lock all your doors, start the engine and shift or put into
reverse.
You look into the rear-view mirror to back out of your parking space
and you notice a piece of paper stuck to the middle of the rear
window. So, you shift the gear stick back into park or neutral,
unlock your doors and jump out of your car to remove that paper or
whatever it is that is obstructing your view. When you reach the back
of your car that is when the car-jackers appear out of nowhere, jump
into your car and take off!! Your engine was running, you would have
left your purse
in the car and they practically mow you down as they speed off in
your car.

BE AWARE OF THIS NEW SCHEME THAT IS NOW BEING USED IN GLASGOW AND
MANCHESTER AND IS MAKING ITS WAY ACROSS THE COUNTRY!!!!!!!!
Just drive away and remove the paper later! It is stuck to your
window and be thankful that you read this email. I hope you will
forward this to friends and family especially to women! A purse
contains all identification, and you certainly do NOT want someone
getting your home address. They already HAVE your keys!!!

JUST BE AWARE AND TAKE CARE IT WILL PROBABLY SOON ARRIVE IN YOUR AREA

I'm always instantly suspicious of stuff like this. Why would any self respecting DC (who presumably has attained this rank because he's at least reasonably intelligent) write something like this in such a sensationalist way? I mean, it's full of capital letters and unecessary exclamation marks. Hardly professional. There may well be a real DC Molloy working for Strathclyde police but I think his name has just been plucked from some other source on the 'net and added to the message to give it credibility.

What I think this is, is the type of e-mail egotistical morons send out to see how far it will spread or how long it will take to come back to them. This is why there is always a strong suggestion that you send it to as many people as you can!!! because it will make their life better!!! etc..etc...

Lol, had this at work lastweek. The only piece of paper I get stuck to my car when I come out out work is from security "Please don't park in the Directors reserved space, again".

I agree with default_user. This is absolutely classic ego spam. Guaranteed fake - just like all those "send it to all your friends" virus warnings.

No way was this written by any DC in an official capacity. Ever seen a press release with so many screamers as this?

A quick check at www.Snopes.com confirms that this is false - and, though it is technically possible, there are no confirmed cases of it ever happening. Anywhere. Not even in Cambridge. ;)
