Some things just can't be placed elsewhere. Have you been speeding and got fined? Or spotted a nice new Volvo on the web somewhere? All non-480 messages can be posted in this part of the board.

was reading some new car magazine the other day with the C30 featured in it. No mention of either the 480 or P1800 though.

Yeh I read that... it said it was better than the Audi, IIRC.

What Car says "...-remember the 1800ES that went out of production in 1973, or the 480 built between 1985 and 1995?"
I like 'built', rather than produce off a production line with automated workers.
Also sound like Volvos concept of build teams where a team builds an individual car - theory that quality would increase - didnt.

Well I suppose that clears that one up - so not lovingly hand crafted by mature skilled workers.

Must be a story there as to how our cars were made - do you have any good short stories (anecdotes)?

It is good to see that you drive what you made!!

Ford C30 - agian takes the fun out of it - it is a Ford Focus underneath - argh

Jezza Clarkson loved the Focus ST... by all accounts the C30 should be the same only aimed more at the middle-class market. I reckon it'll work.

I can't get excited about it though, cos it doesn't look very similar to the 480 at all. They seem to be trying to make sure it isn't linked with the 480 too... so screw 'em! :P

they are lovingly made... were is love in a car factory... say.. any factoy these days... be honest ?

time is money.

globalism rules.. (read GW.Bush /osama bin laden)

Polarity is there

no room for individualism.

I want the wall back !

It changed then...

( must underline that i like the easern europe, been there.. its like a new USA.. driving from state to state (done that)

 maybe they call the uk the new manhattan island one day...

in the old cold war system of positive and negative ... the negative is gone.. and powers exeed crazy limits !

hope the kapitalism gets nuked soon. and people....are save, happy.. with still room for people doing busines... without rules...with humanity.

time is money.. but patience is free

desiterata

japoneese whatch the workers with stop watches now.. the one who is the longest in the toilet gets first out. the whole structure of humanity.. and investments to get the people proud of their product that the swedes tried to improve with social-psychologic-research and improvement.....is far gone ..

I welded 300 series roof tops with a hand held dot welder . about 10 meters from me away.. the 480 passed by as an unpainted body... naked :-D... sometimes they asked me to help there..Of course there was love in making it.. further on.. in "montage" there things were state of the art , not seen since. Ona roomy.. free and even floor wagons on battery.. with computer steering and lifting aids.... drove round solitair. people could easy step on em. and do work, as far as (mostly asea) robots werent helping out doing the heavy jobs..

but... nowadays ..how is love ... when you are checked ?
could you do that ?
try a police officer with a stop watch and a whip in your families master bedroom while doing it with your partner,,haha

0he cars sel like old bread ... the germans , producing "smart for 4 ".... missed their goal ... mitsu is in heavy wheater at the mo.

Yes.. I am an odd man here as it comes to motivation why i drive this odd car.

I never do away what i liked. Its no cheap F16 to me. no obsession , no enhancement of my dig , and no message i am different....

Its a warning in a dream...

don't ever do brainless work again...

you work your ass off.. being "not there"

but inside that dream i dreamt of owning one back then.. like in the film "cristine"

i saw one one day.. it smiled at me from the road side..

didn't remember where it was exactly... but found it back.bought it.. and went though hell with it.

its mine..a part of my life

BTW

I just survived an accident , scatchless

the road handling and brake handling saved my life

driving 80 KM h in a 90 degree curve on a road .. wide about 2,5 meters.. with a high hedge on the corner .....there was one car on the other side.. in oposite direction.. a "hy-hu-ha -day" with no brakesand handling.

I just drove around it while braking..though wet dirt in the road side.. all done in fractions of seconds.. all in peace, knowing what my car is capable off.

thank you angel- keeper ...
luck,
JPF

thank you for having the gutts to answer this psylosophy :-)

I date back as a dutchman very long on this site.. used it a long time as the layout was still blue

the main issue is.. I hate globalism. , and the fact ford owns volvo. I pitty the fact that this site has polarized as a 98 % UK site , being a european site of origin. This could't have been other wise

The people in the world speaking best english , are of course english :-D

I have a daf marathon 1300 1974
and a volvo 480 es turbo with haas conversion.

this tells U I just like the factory in our village.

but don't call me xenophobe or rasist. Keep cool !
so to my eyes... dutch volvo is dead , and the new C30 is not a volvo but a ford or mazda or what ever. to much compromise on compromise on compromise makes :....SHIT !

This is the beginning of how art dies.

We used to have a wagon maker in every village haha I don't want that time back, but world polarisation kills art and independance

so.. Now.. I go back to my new hobby : thanks :-)

Ps : I had a stone marther in my daf the other day and at the same time a broken clutch cable on the 480 ... so enough to be done
luck,
JPF

hmmm... maybe the 480 isn't a Volvo at all, but a DAF?

There are many reasons this has become a mostly UK site. No-one ever set up a specifically UK 480 site and now the forum is on Gaz's server, which is in England.

It's too rare that anything labelled European is based in the UK... maybe this is a step forward. I think because we're an island we usually get treated like outsiders and it's nice to know that we are occasionally considered European rather than some disenfranchised ex-empire.

Volvofox, if you want to talk about losing car makers, then you should be glad there's so many of us islanders about on here...

Rolls Royce
Bentley
Aston Martin
Daimler
Jaguar
Lotus
Rover
Healy
MG
Jenson
Hillman
Morris
Austin

etc etc blah blah... I really could go on but, put it this way, we lost a few. BTW, can I include Delorean? :(

I live near the Vauxhall plant in Ellesmere Port. I bet you a Pound to a Euro that it'll be closed and production moved to Eastern Europe in the next 10 years.

Having said that, I like the fact globalisation is knocking down barriers. I just hate unfairness.

yes.
1)designed by the same people who did design dafs.(constructionwise), in helmond, netherlands

2) : a daf was somtething else in carland ( referring to design and technics).. so is a 480

3) Uses a great amount of parts out of france ... (la coeur renault !)

4) built in the same factory
luck,
JPF

I always thought as much... unfortunately DAF cars are mostly remembered for making cars that went as fast in reverse as they did going forward.

The other think is the style was designed by the Swedes IIRC...

Does that mean the guy who designed the Sierra was Swedish?

nice thoughts jpf.....must say though that i disagree
i think every one should be forced to speak english....its the only decent language in the world afterall...
and as for the european/british thing.....i dont want to live in europes cul-de-sac....keep britain out!!

anyways, i do like the c30....even though it is like so many other cars, but thats not down to who owns the manufacturer....more to do with the designers and whats considered to be fashionable....
i think car desgin in general has become homogenous since the ford sierra.....upto that point, cars were individual, and had different emotions attached to them....since then, all modern cars look like audi/vw/ford hybrids.

i like 50's american cars for this reason....they are very curvy, and individual!

(ps.....read the first couple of lines with a sack of salt.....its called humour in some circles!)

"Having said that, I like the fact globalisation is knocking down barriers. I just hate unfairness." .... <---could someone deepen out, or explain what is meant here ?If I follow U right.. I think U are right.

Please don't use french words.. just to stirr up all of U.. , aldough i have a (french name and a german familyname, as a dutchman, )even the french don't rule around here !

Donot kill me vocabulair... for having a different oppinion as the rest of U. Like U I am entitled to have one :-)
Peace man ! Meanwhile i stand my ground. There are lots of island in europe. and lots of ex-empires. Be glad your language is so easy ! every more-on can speak it hehehe

I don't want this discussion back I had with ALL of u some years ago.. as I think I cooled down some of u getting to one-sided.

My branch of volvo has gone dead since the last V40/S40 left the factory here.

even the mother root runns on different food.

I just hate american policy. of take over and rule.
so... having said that..
can we please speak about cars now :-) ?
thanks :-)
luck,
JPF
