How to be as cool as DCWalker?

Some things just can't be placed elsewhere. Have you been speeding and got fined? Or spotted a nice new Volvo on the web somewhere? All non-480 messages can be posted in this part of the board.

How to be as cool as DCWalker?

Post by jamescarruthers » Sat Jun 01, 2019 12:10 am

Get a convertible C70 to go with your 480 of course!

We got this beauty about a week ago for only £1200. It is mechanically pretty good but needs some work on the seats (very tired leather) and wheels (need refurb, one has a flat spot so looses pressure) to make it super pretty again‎. Looking forward to taking it on a good long journey to Wales for a wedding in a few weeks time. Its the 2.4 turbo as the 2.3 T5 ones seemed to be about £1k more-- fast enough for me.

I would have preferred a later one with the better sound system, parking sensors, prettier lights & grille and not quite as worn inside but essentially I had to have this with its few tired bits one because it looked so handsome ‎in red with the cream interior! Heart over head but it is all fixable or swappable.‎

It will relieve the stress on the 480 in general and also I will have a car while it gets its wheel arches and paint in July. ‎

Nice car!
Those wheels look like they are from a late model V70 (Ford Mondeo), if so, make sure you have proper spacers installed as the wheel hub is smaller.

Thanks guys!

They are Volvo "Comet" wheels, fitted to a lot of C70's. I will ask about spacers at the Volvo specialist I'm going to put it in for a service at

I pray you don't have A981 trim code.... (arena, select leather).

Its the VERY light leather, and is rarer than brand new, undamaged 480 rear lights.

Ask me how I know......

Sadly the C70 has to go. Its had loads done to it recently in my ownership and lots of the important jobs by the last owner. It is ready to enjoy, however the emissions light keeps coming on (even with two new Lambdas) and there is a knock on the L/H suspension and MOT due in May.

Timing belt just done (care of Jeff!). Serviced within last year. 4 x brand new Michelin Cross Climate Tyres and refurbished alloys (except one 2" crunch by me on one new rim so far!).

I will make a proper advert soon but just thought I'd see if anyone on here had a hankering for one over the summer? Replaced last week by an Avantime!

It cost me £1200, I've spent at least that again on it, maybe twice more but I'm afraid I just don't love it enough to continue with it.

emissions light or the 'engine management'?

on the C30 (1800 ford engine) the ruddy light keeps popping up at random times and always it's the Exhaust Gas Recirc valve and i thought they were only fitted to a diesel!!!! it seems to be happy to be reset for a few months at a time! if it won't reset I'm tempted to have ago at repairing the 'sealed for life' item as it can't make it any worse?

either way a load of nice motor for not a lot of dosh

Best of luck with sale
Alan

It was initially on for a lambda fault; When I did the timing belt (Which, James is underselling - Timing Belt, Aux belt, Aux tensioners, water pump, thermostat, temp sensor - All Genuine Volvo parts), I also did both of the Lambda sensors (again, genuine volvo!). Checked and cleared the codes with Vida and life was fine. I'm fairly confident it'll be nothing major, but as James isn't a million miles from me, any buyer is welcome to swing by/meet half way and I'll stick Vida on there to work out what the problem is.

It's a bloody love drive - super comfy and goes like a scalded cat - then you find the "extra" kick down... :o
