Some things just can't be placed elsewhere. Have you been speeding and got fined? Or spotted a nice new Volvo on the web somewhere? All non-480 messages can be posted in this part of the board.

Just bought....

Post by Murf » Mon Jan 14, 2008 7:22 pm

...another hairdressers car!
Thinking of opening a salon!!!

Then i drove it, the handling is absolutely amazing!! Its a UK R reg with optional hard top. 1.8i, 140BHP and 950Kg. Its not as quick as the 480 in a straight line but the handling more than makes up for it!!
To think i used to deride male MX5 owners!!

Guess what I was looking at buying before th 480 ;)

Was so tempted as they are the best cheap sports (soft-top) car money can buy. Tho insurance would have been a bit hard and we wouldnt have been able to bring as much beer back from our roadtrip around europe :D

Ian

PS. Who cares if someone calls it a hair dressers car!

The pop ups on the MX5 in mine and many other block your view somewhat. Be careful out there at the moment mate as

wet road + live axle = big slide

Big slide = brown pants

Nice motor though. I have always liked MX5's but could never own one.

 Your joking, right?? Compared to the MR2 this thing is like a shopping car, you can really throw it around, even in the pissing rain!!
I think thats why i'm enjoying it so much, its comfy and fun but not scary!

Keep forgetting its convertible though, wonder if we'll get any sun this year?? :hopping:

I think I'd rather take the chances with a live rear axle over a mid engined coupe any day! Once a mid engined car does start spinning they are a bugger to get back again. As long as you take it safe rear wheel drive is ace fun, back in the day I used to have a Fiat 132, 2.0 twin overhead cam, that was the best car for powersliding I've ever owned, so much fun I used to drive it sideways everywhere!
Oy Wanderer thats my Smoke Silver Volvo 480 now.

I didn't know the MX5 had a live (aka solid) rear axle, I'd have thought, having been designed as a sports car from, the off that it would have been multi-link!

It doesnt as such, i think its just the way Lee worded it.
It has fully independant double wishbones all round, the rear diff is mounted in a subframe with two driveshafts going out to the hubs.
