WANTED: instrument cluster display

Cleaned up the garage and found some parts you want to sell? Or are you looking for that one part? You can advertise or request just about anything that has to do with the Volvo 480 in here: brochures, towing-hooks, antenna's, etc etc...

WANTED: instrument cluster display

Post by gsa60 » Thu Dec 18, 2025 9:50 am

Well... Seems that this time the infocenter board was not the issue.
The ic/pcb just behind the display is gone. (Tested with two known good info centers, wired directly to avoid bad solder joints, re-soldered everything and still... The display just shows random gibberish)

Does anyone have a display? Or just the small pcb that directly attaches behind the display?

Cheers

It's more often the plug than the LCD display that is the culprit...
Did you downloaded "-91wiring.pdf"?

That could likely be the issue. From memory, the Infocentre computer on mine (separate board behind the display was acting up and causing the same ancient runes to display on the screen) I remember simply re flowing the solder at the time didn't fix it.

The info center screen makes contact to the electrical supply from the info centre housing to it through a flexible rubber conductive strip at the top (or bottom, I can't remember which). Take the screen out, and clean the strip and it's associated contacts on the screen and info centre housing.
This has cured the same problem for me in the past.

I've got a spare cluster if you would like it. Just the cost of postage is all it would cost. It has been in my attic for a few years, and I'm not sure if it has been to Brinkie for repair (I remember having a couple of units done by Robert a few years back).

Anyone can PM me if you'd like it (bearing in mind the 13 year old long in the toothness of the original thread!)
