Drl light cluster
I am looking to get a replacement set. I have been quoted £120 for the amber version. Does anyone have this spare on here? Would prefer to buy from a fellow 480 er
Re: Drl light cluster
Ah, you're hunting for what we call "unobtainium".
Which part do you need? The full cluster, or just the usual DRL (Daytime Running Light)?
Joep in the Netherlands has made reproduction DRL's and they're very good.
DO check the condition of the plastics behind the lenses though, as heat build up leads to melted housings.

Drl lens is not attached to the main body of the light anymore! Well other than tape holding it on. How much does Joeps replacements cost. Can you replace DRLs without indicator. Haven't checked Manuel yet. Whilst working out why it's wasn't starting these were staring at me.
Re: Drl light cluster
As you have doubtless seen, the drl and indicator are one moulded unit with two lenses stuck on. If you're being offered a set, albeit the older amber style, that's a fair price for them these days - as Jeff says, they are unobtanium (ie in the same category as rocking horse sh*t, hen's teeth and flying pigs ).Edmundpwb2 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 18, 2020 11:08 pmDrl lens is not attached to the main body of the light anymore! My suggestion is that you check the unit carefully. The indicator section is probably fine. The plastic moulding of the drl section may be completely distorted and melted, or it may be ok - they vary with no rhyme nor reason. If it's distorted badly, go for the set on offer while they're available. If they're ok, then simply replacing the drl lens is a good option thanks to Joep. Jeff will be able to help with more details there, although if you search the forum you'll find quite a few posts...

Also be aware that the bulb holders are different between the amber indicators and the clear indicators, so you need the right bulb holder for the right unit.

Re: Drl light cluster
I sure this question has been asked before but cannot find it. Do Joeps Lenses come with seals? He has sent a list of seals but not for DRL's. Or should I improvise a seal?

DRL lenses are glued on to the cluster, so no seals are required

Re: Drl light cluster
Cheers James. Seal was wrong word to use I think. My cluster moulding seems to have an adheasive/sealant around where the drl lenses sat. I assumed there was some sort of seal with adhesive on both sides that stuck the drl on.
So now I am thinking of dremmelling around drl moulding to get rid of old adhesive. Hopefully will be flat enough to glue new ones on then. Do you happen to know what the best adhesive to adhere them on would be?

I used EvoStick Serious Glue a few years back - still good.
Joep's lenses are expensive but I think a UK version is on the way that will be much cheaper - depends how soon you need them. Joeps are a much more heat resistant plastic than the originals but you can easily get round the heat problem with led bulbs - just make sure you get the ones recommended by jifflemon.

Thanks for info Dragon
I guess it depends how long the UK version will take to come out. I didn't realise they were in the works. Is there someone I can contact to find out about that?

Re: Drl light cluster
I would probably use a contact adhesive where you paint the glue on both parts, wait for it to dry then stick it together. Alternatively, I'd also use a two part adhesive for longevity
