Passenger side door pocket, rear speaker housings, load cover and ‘Venetian blind’

Cleaned up the garage and found some parts you want to sell? Or are you looking for that one part? You can advertise or request just about anything that has to do with the Volvo 480 in here: brochures, towing-hooks, antenna's, etc etc...

Passenger side door pocket, rear speaker housings, load cover and ‘Venetian blind’

Post by aidanmorris » Wed Aug 26, 2020 6:03 pm

Hi all, recently had a clear out of my loft and found a box of 480 bits. Currently on eBay I’m listing:
1. Passenger side door pocket
2. Driver and passenger side speaker housings (no speakers though)
3.Rear load cover (not a roller one I’m afraid

I’ve also found what I can only describe as a Venetian blind! I remember this being fitted to my 480 when I bought it but it rattled terribly and annoyed the hell out of me so I removed it pronto. I think it’s all there but I seem to recall it had a few issues. I’ll list this shortly when I find some way of safely packaging it.
1967 Land Rover Series IIA SWB
1995 Volvo 480 Celebration (sold)
2003 Condor Squadra and 2008 Condor Italia (2 wheels, no engines!)

Was just thinking the other night how I would like a Venetian blind in my car, along with a boot cover that works
Current Jobs to do (23/1/22):
Fix Central Locking
Fix drivers side speaker
Annoying Scratching Squeak
Water leaks
Complete Front O/S rebuild

Don't go there - I know it's very appealing in terms of collecting up as many accessories and options as possible (that's what I do!) but in this instance my advice is to read what aidanmorris said about it and give the blind a miss. There are enough rattles in a 480 without adding to then ten-fold, which is really all the blind achieved!!

What other options should I keep an eye out for then

Yeah, its bad enough with the suspension squeaking and rattling as well, but I would like a boot cover as mine is currently broken, as two of the metal rings have popped out of their slots in the fabric...

I had a Venetian blind and cassette holder in my first 480, a lovely low mileage ES 1992 which I think died in 2011 :( Never quite got the hang of the blind and ended up selling it on eBay. Funky though, now I come to think about it.

Options - these were never extensive, but included mudflaps, cassette holder, cup-holder armrest, hard & carpet mats, locking wheel nuts, rigid boot liner, tow-bar, door-sill protectors, roller boot cover...(Sylvia has all my brochures at the moment so I can't check for a full list for you!)

You can also do a few upgrades that are in line with what Volvo originally did, or planned, or did on the other 400s - in my case illuminated window switches, footwell lights, illuminated side-marker lights in the rear side reflectors.

I have a good condition "standard" boot cover if you'd be interested? I'll see what they are going for on ebay and undercut to a reasonable price ;) ...let me know!

Thanks david, I may take you up on that, but what is the roller boot cover? The biggest issue I find with the Volvo is it's distinct lack of any privacy

The roller boot cover is probably the best addition you can make to a 480! No more unclipping the original design. Its the same design you get in a lot of estate cars in that it is wound on a sprung sort of axle.

You need to drill two holes in to the plastic liners in the boot to mount the body, and when rolled out it latches to the two most aft and central existing clips on the car.

Arm rest with bottle holder. Makes changing gear difficult and applying the handbrake extra difficult. It is a nice addition on a long trip when you are in 5th gear for hours but best employed in an automatic I'd say. Saying that, I do have one and the extra height is nice day-to-day

Casette box. Just steals space unless you are a casette lover. I'm certainly not.

Thanks for identifying some of those James!

Interesting what you say about the arm-rest - I find it no problem at all, but then you are considerably taller than I am, so maybe since I imagine you have the seat further back that's why it gets in your way? In the 440 I have the fold down armrest and that's attached to the seat, and that DOES get in the way of the handbrake!

I think you're right about the roller cover. Ben, just make sure if you do find one for sale (they pop up every so often on ebay, or might be in a car that's being broken (especially a Celebration, in which they were standard) that the mounting brackets are also included. It's useless without them!!

Must admit I still play around with cassettes and like having the drawer unit thingy - if anyone has one rattling around they no longer want, btw, I'll happily give it a home (in the 440...)

So I've dug out the Venetian blind. I think its all there but one of the 'feet' has a break and has been super glued into position. The other foot seems fine. Also a number of the blinds themselves have nicks/marks. Afraid I have no idea how to post pictures but I'm going to list it on eBay this evening so plenty of photos will be posted there. I have no idea what its worth but would like to get a fair price so auctioning it seems the best way to go. Have also found yet another box of bits and pieces including a digital clock and a volts/oil pressure gauge and will be listing these as well.

Thanks for the heads-up Aidan; I shall watch ebay with interest.

Can I just flag up that the car known as R1 - the first of the (now) 3 that the club has rescued and is seeking to do up and rehome - is unexpectedly missing its voltmeter/oil pressure gauges (in it when first seen, removed by the time of collection). It is an early model and they should be there as standard. Perhaps you might see your way to contacting jifflemon about them (he has the car and is leading the work on it) and maybe giving him preference...? :D

Best wishes
