Volvo 480 Club Europe

Some vandals smashed my 1989 480 ES right hand door window and quarter glass with a rock, also broke side mirror mount etc. Car was in mint condition before, and I'm struggling here in New Zealand to find replacements. Any suggestions much appreciated. I'm happy to pay freight from Europe if these can be found somewhere, but so far no luck.

I think the car is worth it ... but I guess there's a limit. Have you any idea of cost? I know parcel rates from UK to NZ with parcelforce.com is about 300 Euros, which would be ok for me ...

Isn’t eBay the best way to do it? As a seller you can offer the item “worldwide”; you then pay postage to the nearest eBay shipping depot, they ferry it around the world to the customer.

oooo, no, the customer is then charged both the shipping to ebay and the onward shipping to them. Been there, done that, never again.

malcontent is in Poland, shipping from there may be cheaper than from the UK

Also, you'll have to clarify if it's the earlier wing mirror you need or the later type.

I'd be gutted to spend 300 notes on postage and end up with the wrong part

Have you costed from an auto glass place? might be cheaper than you think and they have contracts for shipping internationally.

Always worth asking, even just to give you a base price.

You have a 1989 ES so it must be the bigger side mirror (pre 1991 facelift). Maybe if you mention the colour, Marek may even have the correct one for you.

The maximum size for a 2 - 5 kgs parcel from The Netherlands is 100x50x50 cm and it will cost € 34,50 to deliver to New Zealand. If you get the weight down to 2 kgs it is even cheaper but I doubt whether a parcel containing a side window and a mirror will be under 2 kgs.
I don't think posting from Poland is much different for both maximum parcel size and price. Assuming a side window is smaller than 100x50 cm, you're sorted.

Oh, whereabouts in NZ are you? There is a YouTube channel I follow called HubNut from a British guy who is currently travelling through South Island to find out what (crazy) cars people drive there and what life in NZ is about in general. He has travelled through North Island in a Citroën BX, now on South Island in a Ford Fairmont (because, well, parts availability), when he was in The Netherlands a Volvo 480 has already featured in one of his videos. But maybe you have another non-standard car? (or a crazy Japanese car which we never see in Europe)

Thanks all for advice ... yes I tried auto glass, was my first port of call, but after 6 months they couldn't find anything in the world ... of course they only source new products not second hand.

The side mirror is earlier type not 'facelift' type. There's a quarter glass on ebay (UK) but they have no postage option for NZ ...

I'm on a beach called Toko Mouth ... those old cars are rarer now than before since we import a lot of cheap Japanese second hand cars ... my 480 is red and is completely original, done about 50K miles.

Any update on this? Did you get sorted or are you still needing stuff posted to NZ?

Still looking for these. Have made a perspex substitute so that the car is usable, but it's not a permanent solution. So if anybody has any of these I'm still interested. Cheers.
