breaking LHD 2.0

Cleaned up the garage and found some parts you want to sell? Or are you looking for that one part? You can advertise or request just about anything that has to do with the Volvo 480 in here: brochures, towing-hooks, antenna's, etc etc...

I have started to cut the shell up, look away if you have a weak stomach.

Having sold the wheels I had planned to take the wheels of my car to get it in and out of the garage. To save a bit of work I used my spare wheel and wheel dollies.

I am going to cut the rear wings and panels off for future use. The screen broke when I was trying to remove it.

Managed to get 30 litres of petrol out the tank.

The engine runs, I drove the car out of the garage an took a short video.

have you got a rear sub-frame?
not the beam axle , just the bit bolts to car and the round tubes that go to rear?

and do keep the front struts, as the pans are NLA :-(

Found a strange thing on this car.

The rear seems to have wiring for ABS sensors, plugs, cables and grommets through the floor etc but nothing on the front?

I just want to say that I work on a first ask gets basis but occasionally I have kept parts and never hear from the person or they sell their car etc. I think to be fair if someone enquires about parts I have I wont sell them to anyone else until a sale is agreed or not. After 2 weeks if nothing has been agreed then the parts are available again. I think this is a fair way to operate.

Alan,

Is it the piece where there torsion bar attaches?

This is a borrowed picture. I never realised it came off.

Re: breaking LHD 2.0 - ENGINE

Post by arthuy » Mon Apr 22, 2019 10:38 pm

I tried to make a video of the engine running before I drained the fuel out.

Runs quite well, looking for a new home. The video is not the best due to my phone camera being faulty.

https://youtu.be/onWrJZ5xH2o

Have kept a load of trim, pair of door cards, centre console without any additional screw holes etc should anyone need.

Some left hand specific parts need a new home, front wiper motor, dash surround and speedo/clocks.

Just to give an update.

I still have the shell, breaking it has taken a back seat.

The engine and box are still available, rear axle with ABS sensors, doors, rear hatch, bonnet, aircon system, fuel tank etc.

Ideally If someone is looking for a decent 2.0l engine and box.

The exhaust manifold is spoken for but it will be a while before I will get around to dissecting the front end.

There are some left hand specific parts, the speed clock are good and the black trim panel is also in good order.

I apologise as I never got back to you about the pair of round tubes 'rear stabilser' / 'torque tubes' the ones that bolt onto rear next to bumper :(

NOT the Panhard rod and I reckon that the rear subframe on Nora is pretty decent as it seems to hav ebeen routinely 'plastered' with waxoyl or similar .. . .

I might need them deends on how bad EVA wheel-arches are / is when get around to repairing it

dicovered on Saturday that somebody has clattered the whole N/S in a car park, from middle of door right to rear arch, you can even make out the size of the rubbing stake on the other cars bumper, about 30mm deep. real PITA that folk would do that much damage and not even leave a note

If the engine doesn't end up finding a home, we are in need of a 2ltr sump - our GT's has an old weld with rust around it, OK for now but at some point it needs changing. Please bear in mind if you have to scrap the block.

I still have the tank and the pump which was in good order.

I wont be able to get to the car easily as it is stored at a friends but anything urgently needed I will try.

There is still a lot to recover, I had plans to removed the rear panels and cut down the front bulk head. I am really pushing it with my friend but all parts are safe.

Part of the plan was to make an effort to sell the parts, I keep the engine turning over, it was good but not many people seem interest in a 2.0 engine. handy spare for me though. I could do a swap of sumps but it will be a while before I get to that as would need to get my engine crane and bits down to my mates.

The sumps are a standard Renault part, 77 00 857 504 or 77 01 648 829 is the part number. You can even order them new, but beware of suppliers who have errors in their parts list
(for instance, https://www.autodoc.co.uk/ridex/12759083 lists the 480 but is wrong)

Just to update this thread.

Lockdown is being relaxed a bit so I can get down to the spares car.

I have cut out some areas of body work which might be useful, I am going to start stripping the front end down too.

If you have asked in the past for part of are interested in some sections to make repairs let me know.

Engine still turns over freely. basically everything in the engine bay is still there.

I would like to find a good home for the LHD specific parts, the speedo clocks are good, LHD steering rack, PAS hoses.

Just drop me a message.
